$$$$…..make it affordable….I'm white and love hockey, but my parents couldn't afford to let me play. I bought skates from a play it again sports and taught myself how to skate. I never got to play anything organized because of $$$
Barberian's in Toronto is an awesome resto to sink into a perfectly cooked steak and a conversation with substance. Thank you Donnovan Bennett, Georges Laraque and Kevin Shattenkirk for spending time and doing work within your circles
"Equality" in hockey has nothing to do with anything other than the insane amount of money minor hockey costs.
It costs $500-$2000 just to sing up for my local league (and that's not even a league in a major city), then another grand or so on equipment, god forbid the kid wants to goalie since that's like $5000+ for gear alone. Then there's travel, when I was playing in Bantam and Midget I would often have to travel to cities 2+ hours away on a week night for a game…
You can have all the discussions you want, but hockey isn't an inclusive sport, not because anyone doesn't want it to be, but just because it isn't.
Georges, merci d'être la voix pour plusieurs personnes et pour les animaux. Tu es inspirant. Désolé qu'ils t'ont invité à manger dans un steakhouse pour parler d'inclusion par contre…
