Is Hyman the real MVP… when you consider his contract? | 7-Eleven That’s Hockey

With Zach Hyman on pace for 59 goals this season, does the Oilers forward need to be included in the conversation as one of the NHL’s elite goal-scorers? How much credit does Connor McDavid deserve for Hyman’s scoring jump this year? That’s Hockey weighs in.

  1. For years they've been saying, looking for a forward to play with McDavid. They get a player, and they say it's because he's playing with the best.

  2. I think he did the smart thing and just did net front drills all summer or something. His finish around the net is considerably better this season than it has been in the past. He only scored 36 last year, but people forget that that was like 15 goals below what was expected; he got robbed by goalies more than any player I've ever seen. He also had several goals called back on goalie interference reviews.

  3. Hyman is not getting 50 elsewhere. With that said. Hes still scoring. He just happens to be the PERFECT fit. That in itself is rare. There are other Oilers and none of them succeeded as McDavids linemate with that success except Leon, and Leon can roll by himself quite good. He won the MVP of the league due to McDavid injury.

  4. It's not even the mcdavid affect he literally played with guys like mitch marner, auston matthews, William nylander he is in the right place at the right time right now to flourish and that's what is happening

  5. Hyman is the type of versatile player THAT every team needs in the NHL. He's not a super elite player , but he takes some of the work load off of the super elite players with whom he plays with by knowing where to be and when to be to either score or get the puck to the super elite player to score .

  6. I loved Hyman when he was on the Leafs. I think he was the most under rated player on the team. I'm glad to see that he's doing well

  7. Zack is perhaps one of the best free agent signings in recent NHL history His impact on the Oilers is massive.

  8. From a fan who watches all the Oiler games what makes the Hyman/McDavid/Nugent-Hopkins line so effective in my opinion, is the puck rarely dies on any of thier sticks, and they are great and winning board battles

  9. Hyman fits well in there, he`s a constant threat around the net. Working hard, also on the fore-check and he`s great on the rush.
His anticipation is good, he`s creating a lot of room for other players.
He has a career year, but the Oilers are past a point where that matters. Last year it was RNH on a heater, nobody cares about it today.
The Oilers must win a cup, otherwise it`s all for nothing.
