THATCHER DEMKO OUT 2-3 WEEKS WITH KNEE INJURY

According to reporting by both Farhan Lalji and Rick Dhaliwal, goaltender Thatcher Demko is expected to miss two to three weeks with a knee injury.

Look to Casey DeSmith to carry the load as the Canucks play their next 8 games at home over the next 3 weeks.

  1. Good for Demko to get some rest as long as he gets time to get back up to game speed before the playoffs. He's such an important part of the team so there's no reason to rush him back. DeSmith has been solid when the team in front of him plays with structure.

  2. I know this sounds crazy, but I am glad this happened. Hear me out.

Demko has been playing too much. Even with 'gimme' games – ie. Chicago, why was Demko even playing instead of DeSmith. The Canucks need to manage Demko's workload down the stretch because Demko will most be needed by PLAYOFF time. Give DeSmith some playing time, get Silovs up and let him play a game or two as well.

  3. I have all the confidence in Casey. The guys have to play the way they can in front of him; really good forecheck, solid defensive hockey, and drive the play in the offensive zone. The schedule being as spread out as it is this month is a positive too.

  4. I’m glad it’s nothing to serious I’m confident in Desmith he’s been pretty solid when we need him to be, having silovs up (hopefully) will help if Casey has an off night but overall I think We’re looking good

  5. Honestly, I'm not worried at all. DeSmith is a solid backup, and has the chops to at least go 500. And that is more than enough to carry us into the Playoffs. Too bad we can't pull a Vegas/Tampa Bay and bring in some hired guns with the LTIR cap space.

  6. Ready for some blasphemy. The team makes the goalie, the goalie doesn't make the team. Yes they can steal a game here and there but you can't build a team around a goalie. Vegas won the Stanley cup and had six different keepers last year.

  7. I am going off the grid on this one. Yes I am sorry that Demko has a knee injury but I believe it isn't serious. The great segway is he gets a well deserved rest and will be ready come playoffs. If I had just one complaint, he played Demko too much. That is why you have 2 goalies. Also DaSmith I felt needed more time between the pipes. He is a very good goalie and this time spilling off Demko will reap the Canucks great rewards.

  8. This isn't good, it's rare that knee injuries are only 2-3 weeks, especially for a goalie. I expect that he'll come back and be playing hurt rest of year and it'll probs impact his performance. Not good.

  9. One positive to take from this is that the canuck skaters will have to focus more on defensive play. When they are focused on defensive play, they are pretty hard to beat.

  10. Desmith has only had like 2 starts since the allstar break. They have unnecessarily overplayed Demko especially that Chicago game where everyone questioned why Demko even played that game. Hope Tocchet and Ian Clark learn from this

  11. Off for two to three weeks.not something from before then it’s a whole bunch of other things.maybe it’s Covid.regardless, he’ll have to brought back to playing shape and that’ll take a week once he can be on skates again.as far as ice time goes he calls the shots. The coaches and his goalie coach let him make the call. They ask him everyday “how do you feel”?If he says I’ll play then he plays.simple as that.
