Casey Mittelstadt Trade Fixes 2C But Byram Gone? | NHL Trade Deadline

Can actually help you and with B playing the offside a lot for the Avalanche lately it really doesn’t feel like coincidence knowing that the Sabers specifically need a right somebody to play on the right side of that defense it’s like look we could just be making

This up here but it the AGM is there for multiple games a lot of those trips Eric you can confirm this but a lot of those trips a guy comes in he’s into he’s into a city he’s out of a city he’s onto it this guy’s going to hang around he’s

Going to watch multiple games of the same I’m come on does happen and for an AGM I’m sorry but it that raises that raises the eyebrows more than a scout that’s there from a team for one game and then they gone yeah that’s a that to me is I think is interesting Byron’s

Playing on the right side the the needs for both organizations fit and they they have their each guy is an kind of an extra Guy got a question for you you guys at the age of 18 how many pull-ups could you do God six it’s four more than me one I have spaghetti arms one hey one is more than the guy we’re about to talk about so stop my my T-rex arms aided me

Greatly I also didn’t the pull so yeah exactly I didn’t have all the weight so not many maybe seven dude not many but I’ve never been a pull-up guy not many then then my first year Pro separated my shoulder where it’s like then then since then after that it was like like this

And it was like I would show up in Camp and Sh but I couldn’t do the pull-up contest like because I would be like zero you know I mean like Casey middle stat thankfully pull-ups do not a pro hockey player make the abs are looking for a big splash to solve their 2C

Problem potentially not just this year but going forward Casey middle stat has broken out over the past couple of years the offensive production certainly is there in his game he’s an expiring RFA at the end of this year only 2 and2 million so not particularly expensive for this cup

Run is this a can they realistically try and do this in season or is this more of a this could be a offseason thing I think the only way this would make sense is if they have two moves in place and this is a bym deal for Middle stat and

Then they have a deal the backfill bym yeah for for a hanifen or a tanv okay on the back side of it that’s the only way that it makes sense to me um so I guess we’ll live in the world where they do decide to make that move sure otherwise

There’s no point in having the conversation yeah um middle stat has the breakouts real he’s good he’s explosive he’s Dynamic he’s not a number one Center but he’s a good player he’s uh you know he’s a catalyst for the offense around him but can score a little bit of the goals as

Well he’s not as natural a goal scorer as I think I’d like um my my like reservation with him is probably more that I think he is I I worry that if he gets around chushin and lein looking for a finisher on that line exactly that you

Really don’t have a natural like a really natural goal scorer cuz nushin scores a lot of his goals Right Around the Net yep which is fine when you have a playmaker of stats caliber you expect that he could probably get the puck to the place it needs to be yeah get that

Puck in those areas so it’s not like it would be a bad combination but like the minor very very minor concern that I would have but otherwise I don’t really know what the downside here is um he’s going to get paid in the offseason but he’s not going

To get paid so much that you can’t operate around it and a 24 25 years old you sign him to a five-year deal you’re kind of done with this for the next foreseeable future five years I guess the 2C thing stops being something you have to do every single season and

You’re bleeding assets to go do yeah you use a big asset and buy them but otherwise you go and get a guy that he he fits your play style he makes you better and he’s got the kind of production uh and he’s shown he’s shown

The skill on his own but the skill to play with skill he kind of just puts a bow on your entire forward core for this season and you just say great for the foreseeable future our top six is well our Center depth goes McKinnon middle stat and Colton

Ross Colton true it’s pretty good you have at least three years of that until Colton needs a new contract that fig out a long way away you figure it out from there because you signed Taves you signed maard Gerard continues to be under contract yep so your top

Three guys on your defense are all on deals that you’re continuing to be happy with you just figure at that point you’re filling in holes yep in in instead of trying to instead of trying to build a dam to block a river you know you’re you’re

You’re ju it’s just leaks at that point it’s Band-Aids you’re you’re comfortable there you take care of your biggest roster need all at one time you get a guy that’s young that you can just continue to build around the the 25 years old is what really appeals to me in Middle stat

Honestly he’d be highest on my list if I believed it was most realistic like he’d be above a want for Henrik if I believed it was realistic and so I think that’s the concern is is Buffalo interested in dealing with Colorado because there is upside for a 25-year-old player and you

Know arbitration eligible RFA this this summer and AVS would get first crack at negotiating a new contract those negotiations become easier if you win a cup and I think that that’s something that he could be sold sold on as a player wanting to grow here because there’s so much room to grow the

Stylistic fit makes some of the most sense of the centers we’ve talked about good speed good motor great possession player above average shooting percentage like you’re not as worried about the offensive contributions the way we’ve had some of that concern with the other players here and I know we’ve talked

About like Scouts and things and attendance at game but Buffalo Sabers assistant GM has been coming to home games it was probably pre-planned I don’t want to stoke that fire too much sometimes it is sometimes it’s not right but he he’s been there the last two home

Games I would love it to keep the middle stat dream alive it could be just purely wishful thinking both played pretty well the last couple games so Bonos yeah I mean is what it comes down to and no sometimes it is they’re there for a reason right you know it’s not

Just coincidence it’s you’re there for for for that purpose you’ll just never know because they’ll never tell you uh but me it comes down to I like the player I like the I like the fit I don’t have it in front of me but what you have

Bar rights this summer yeah and that that’s where it becomes a little bit of he’s playing a big role in Buffalo he’s got some decent stats he will finish with good stats his ARB case I think they all comes down to his ARB case can

You afford him and you know what I mean like can you afford if you’re DS you know what I mean I think it comes down to the projections and we don’t I don’t have that front of me I’m not a the greatest C guy in the world I’m actually

Terrible you should put him in the 6 to 7 million range rough at six and a half right okay so so you have to do the the gymnastics now like how where you know B you’re leaving B this is part of your de right you said like you’re getting rid of that

Is that an inseason trade is that a summer thing right you know what I mean and then it’s just I don’t know projection wise how does that work what can you CU like you said it’s tied into Byron somewhere somehow right I mean I mean it would have to be so that’s just

Shy of 4 million of it you at least for the first year Well exactly so that’s I know what you’re saying and I’m I’m like you that’s what I said about Devon right sign and figure out later I’m always about figure out later uh but I think

You have to have a little bit of projections just to see can this work and can we go get another defenseman that kind of fits those projections where we’re not weakening ourselves and I and I agree with you I love Sammy you know so it’s like then you have 3DS anyway that are

Highend DS you know so it’s it’s just a matter of where do you think the ARB case is and where do you think it fits and where does that leave you with that hole for Bo you know I play up my dislike of Casey midad

A lot I think he actually would be a very good fit in Colorado on the 2C line but my one concern that I do have this is a guy who is on this Lighter Side he’s not a particularly strength built player and he’s played in Buffalo his whole career

Which means you have no idea what he is in the NHL playoffs yeah I mean you definitely are it’s a total crapshoot as to how does he handle the moment yep how does he handle expectation all add to that is and I’m careful since last year because I used

To always say like oh God like I bet you this guy can’t play in the playoffs can’t Elevate his game you know I’m not saying that about Casey midd then I’m saying we don’t know cuz he’s never been in those situations right but I’m careful more now La since last year

Because I’ve said that about Jack eel I don’t know what push comes you know what he was outstanding in the playoffs so I ate my words you know what I mean and I I don’t know the guy I’m I like the player I just didn’t think he

Was going to be able to elevate his game and to be there down because it is a different animal the postseason so middle stat I was instead of saying that cuz like I’ve learned my lesson I’d be like yeah to make sure that he is good

You know could he Elevate his game I think he could you know what I mean like but it’s like still a question mark cuz you don’t know he’s never done it lots to proof lots of people have never done it either yep right so but there’s a question mark there you

Know so I don’t know how realistic getting this move done is I don’t know but if it’s something that is on the table the ab should be working hard on it yeah and and normally you know a lot of these conversations like like a lot of the Boon Jenner stuff that ABS fans

Have weirdly obsessed over for the last couple of years I um it’s it’s been like why does Columbus want to move him why would they do that no sense in Buffalo’s case there’s clear answers here yep there’s a clear motivation you would understand why they don’t want to pay

Him $6 and5 million for the foreseeable future already paying cousins and Thompson you’ve paid Tage Thompson you’ve paid Dylan cousins you’ve paid Ross mallene you’ve paid Owen power you’re hoping for an excuse to pay Devon Levi someday you’ve got wings out the Wazoo coming up in your system yep

You’ve got a couple you’ve got a couple of great really good centers that you’re excited about coming coming up in your system and you’re hopeful that Dylan cousins gets back to being that guy too and you paid Samuelson really got an injured D all the time true and and you

Need one more good top four young top four guy that can actually help you and with B playing the offside a lot for the Avalanche lately it really doesn’t feel like coincidence knowing that the Sabers specifically need a right somebody to play on the right side of that defense

It’s like look we could just be making this up here but it the AGM is there for multiple games a lot of those trips Eric you can confirm this but a lot of those trips a guy comes in he’s into he’s into a city he’s out of a city he’s onto it

This guy’s going to hang around he’s going to watch multiple games of the same I’m come on does happen and for an AGM I’m sorry but it that raises that raises the eyebrows more than a scout that’s there from a team for one game and then they’s gone yeah that’s a that

To me is I think is interesting Byron’s playing on the right side the the needs for both organizations fit and they they have their each guy is an kind of an extra guy at their positions where you in a perfect world you’d love to be able to

Pay them long term and keep them and whatever y but smarter financial decision for both teams balance your roster I unfortunately I think it’s probably a pipe dream in season but definitely I think so in season I think it’s probably too bold but come June 25th or whatever you know the

Day after the Stanley Cup is awarded those are those two those are two teams that should just be stalking each other’s social media like like the full gamut of like hey I’m in your business well you know what they say fortune favors the Bold so maybe that’s

The play scared money don’t make money there you go there it is sometimes you got to make the Splashy move be bold and mighty forces will Aid you I don’t have any more in the bag uh me neither that’s all I got Casey middle stat could be that guy who knows we’ll

Just have to wait and see for Colorado we do have a couple more players still to come so keep it locked to this playlist or at very least the dnvr sports YouTube account give us a subscribe and watch more Videos

  1. the most appealing player for the 2c with the age. a player on the softer side of the spectrum but he is skilled and productive with out pp. no issues from me giving up byram for him but like stated does buffalo want to give him up? they have kept indicating no

  2. This feels like a summer deal and not a deadline deal. I wouldn't want to lose Byram during a cup run, but losing him to permanently fix 2c feels really good

  3. Its funny to see Buffalo fans crap on this trade on CF because they just can't imagine a LD playing off-side and don't want to give anyone up for any reason

  4. If the avs get him for shipping out byram (plus whatever minor pieces are included to make the gms happy idrk) all they need to do is find a way to shed ryjo's contract in the summer and they could feasibly sign him for up to 5 mil over the summer. Don't think it necessarily has to be a summer deal, I think the big issue is finding a way out of ryjo's contract, not sure if that's something that can get done by the deadline, but if that's possible then we could definitely make a move for depth D or even someone like hanifin to fill Byram's spot.

  5. My preferred 2C pick, I know it will cost a lot, but would be "closer" to a Kadri like 2C in some ways with offensive production and speed

  6. Easily the player I’m the most interested in at the deadline. Overpay for the guy, who cares—he’s an immediate roster upgrade heading into the playoffs and potentially solves the 2C problem for years to come. Take the gamble!

  7. Man, I’m just not comfortable losing Byram because of Manson’s injury struggles and Girard’s struggles in the playoffs and with the physical game. The Avs would need to acquire another really good defenseman, and they don’t have the cap space to do it.

  8. Byram is a left handed mobile puck moving defenseman. We have Power and Dahlin. Byram doesn’t fit all on the sabres. Not to mention Byram is one bad hit to the head from being retired.

  9. Middlestad is a great player thats played great being forced to play with 3rd liners , he will put up 80 for Colorado next year and now we have 5 left handed defensmen, we named our worse player captain this year when he shouldnt of even of been on the team, sabres are the lauguing stock of the league and its time for granato and adams to leave

  10. Mittelstadt is a beast. He can play up and down the lineup, center and wing – is an elite passer and protects the puck like a hawk. As a Sabres fan, you guys got a fantastic player. I think time will show Colorado will win this trade…

  11. Great call. You earned a new subscriber. Diehard Sabres fan here. Hate to lose Casey but we also need defensive help and Byram is only 22. Looks like he has a high ceiling. Best of luck Casey!

  12. Nice call, guys.

Casey is much improved in the last season and a half, all due to his perseverance. He's a puck hound, good on the boards and backcheck, excellent at puck protection. Sees the ice well, and is a good passer. Decent shot that he needs to use more. He'll be excellent at 2C behind Mack.

Sabres are selling high on him and I expected more. We don't need a 22 year-old who just makes the youngest team in the league younger, regardless of his potential. Dahlin and Power make Byram's skill set redundant in the top-4. He'll be, at best a PP2 option, and only if he can displace Power. A willing fighter with a serious concussion history is scary for him and his team.

  13. Fair trade throw in some wings Kev gonna miss,Casey watched this kid grow up as a player he's good or they wouldn't of gave us Byram
