  1. Only 5th? Really?

I would say that the Avs number 1 by the way. After the Avs I don’t really see a tean in the west above Vancouver. Are teams like the Jets very good? Sure. Are they better than us? Doubtful.

Edmonton also have the same problems that they have had for years.

I watched the clip and he basically had us here for lack of experience, which is fair

I don’t see the appeal with Winnepeg at 2 though. Sure, they have the best goalie in the league, but what else do they have? The Canucks and other teams have proven their system and structure is beatable, and they don’t have the offensive firepower that other teams have

We can nitpick here and there, but come on, who expected us to even be on this list at the beginning of the season. Enjoy the ride and don’t waste your time putting stock into the media’s attention vacuum. We’re playing hard, and even though I have high expectations, should we choke in the playoffs just making them would’ve been a success. I’ve been around a while and will gleefully take this ranking any day of the week.

Despite their recent play imma say Vegas is also top 5.

  5. I think that list sounds fair. Outside of the bizarre experience that was the bubble, our core doesn’t have a huge playoff pedigree. I think we compare well to Edmonton, but we’ve also seen McDavid take over playoff series on his own over the past couple of years. Until this group proves themselves, I can appreciate why teams who have recent playoff success are ranked higher. And I think it’s good that they might go in with a chip on their shoulder.

Before getting upset with this (or with Petey’s play in contrast to Mackinnon’s game breaking play), people should check out the Avs journey before they won the cup. Multiple chokes and failures with that core before they figured out how to be game breakers. If we were to follow a similar arc, we’re gonna lose the next 2-3 playoffs before winning a cup.

Not saying that’s the only arc teams follow, but we do bear *some* similarities with their core, so far. Our journey can be different, we might win this year or maybe this core never wins it — either way, our expectations can be aligned with rationality and reality. And we can celebrate what we’ve accomplished no matter when we exit the playoffs, if at all.
