Mark Borowiecki just returned from a one-game suspension, only to find himself on the receiving end of a five-minute major after hitting Cody Eakin and then dropping the gloves to defend himself.

Clean hit
Wait what? I thought it was 5 for fighting? He got 5 mins for an excellent and clean hit? What is wrong with the NHL right now?
Calm down everyone. It's not a clean hit. He hits him in the jaw, and you can't do that in the NHL anymore. Sure it's not really Borowiekciekirkicki's fault because he really didn't do anything malicious here, but the trend in the NHL is removing any hits to the head from the game and unfortunately this is exactly what a hit to the head looks like. Shoulder to shoulder? Maybe after he drives through Eakin's face…
NHL is a soy boy league now, clean hit gets you 5mins, pathetic
A clean hit and a good ass whoopin!
Rule 48
– Illegal Check to the Head
48.1 Illegal Check to the Head
– A hit resulting in contact with an opponent’s head where the head was the main point of contact and such contact to the head was avoidable is not permitted. In determining whether contact with an opponent's head was avoidable, the circumstances of the hit including the following shall be considered:
(i) Whether the player attempted to hit squarely through the opponent’s body and the head was not "picked" as a resultof poor timing, poor angle of approach, or unnecessary extension of the body upward or outward.
ii) Whether the opponent put himself in a vulnerable position by assuming a posture that made head contact on an otherWise full body check unavoidable.
(iii) Whether the opponent materially changed the position of his body or head immediately prior to or simultaneously with the hit in a way that significantly contributed to the head contact.
It was a clean hit borowiecki got a charging penalty for the hit 5 minutes for fighting and a game misconduct according to the game sheet
anyone can see , in slow motion, that right before the GOON hit the player , the GOON elevated his left shoulder , as well as turned his head away. The goon was well away from the puck carrier, at the edge of circle (0.02 second mark), took several strides, turned directly toward the puck carrier, raised his shoulder and drove it directly into the player. Clearly a DIRTY HIT. Anyone saying otherwise is brain dead. Slow motion replay clearly shows the intent of the GOON.
Shoulder to chest hit. Eakin was caught off guard and wasn't aware of the hit coming. The only reason they called it is cause he just got back from an elbowing suspension and now he'll probably get five
IS HE UGLYYYY
should start giving the reffs black and white dresses to wear everytime they make a call like this.
Clean
Sick and tired of inconsistencies from NHL refs and Player Safety. I'd like to know how anyone laying that hit could have avoided clipping Eakin's chin? Seriously, at full speed, when a player with the puck drops his head while carrying the puck, accidental hits to the head will happen as long as body checking is part of the game. If the head is targeted, then there should absolutely be suspensions handed out. I really believe that this was an attempt at a clean hit. Look, you're responsible for your stick and your body on the ice. Accidental tripping, or high sticking is a penalty. So fine, call the penalty, but if they suspend Boro for this, then the NHL must be trying to take big hits out of the game completely. Guess it's going to be men's league rules soon.
No hitting league returns. He didn’t launch into the hit and his shoulder caught the chest. Someone explain to me how that is a penalty. That is a hit you want to see. not a hit in the numbers or elbow to the head. Just a solid hit that fans like to see. And if he did catch some of his head it’s because Eakins head was down.
Clean hit but he's probably gonna get 41 games like Torres
Clean hit. The refs gave Mark Borowiecki 5mins because he is ugly. I guarantee if he looked like Patrick Sharp, this wouldn't happen. Facial profiling tbh
Clean hit esti que maintenant son fife ses gars la dans ltemp setai des vrai homme avec de lhonneur ya pu dhonneur dans ce sport qui s en vien de la ringuette
Is this hockey or figure skating! Tired of these vaginas. Elvis stojko the door is open to the nhl
He was just suspended for 3 games for this.
The beginning of flag hockey………
This is what's ruining hockey. Clean hit, injury is on Eakin, yet suspension. Welcome to 2-hand-touch NHL.
Terrible call, shouldn’t have been a penalty, stop making this soccer.
Can't believe he got three games for that hit, the NHL is getting ridiculous.
NHL aka no contact rec hockey
Don't get how these idiots think this is a clean hit. He clearly hit him in the head purposefully. He received a 3 game suspension and you dont get suspended for "clean hits"
It seemed ok.
Clean hit, all the way!
head was down…
Keep your head up and your stick on the ice Eakin lol. NHL is getting soft
What a cumstain
honestly borowiecki looks like a crackhead
This "Cleaning up hockey" bullshit is going too far.
Close call for contact to the head,we can expect to see Marchand get 3 games for this one.
I'm starting to think that no hits are legal
Y'all need to chill. Even the commentators stated it was to the jaw. Albeit accidentally he still JUST returned. It's a repeat offense. I don't think it was a suspension based on the hit being intentional but more so he has 0 control or awareness of where principal contact is
What the hell was wrong with that one?
Can’t take the contact, don’t play the sport. Simple as that.
5 min major and a game for Charging? What a joke. He glided into the hit, not taking three or more strides prior, and didn't launch himself into the hit. It has become the de-facto "hitting-too-hard" penalty.
Shoulder clearly hits the jaw first. Probably not deliberate, but seems pretty consistent with other calls the nhl makes.
Vegas fan and local here, didn't look like too crazy of a hit. Didn't see a ton of head contact like you do in the typical illegal hit by the bag of turds, Tom Wilson.
Wow, that is not a suspension since hits to the head in the NHL are not banned! They should be banned, but they aren't. Face to face, shoulder to the head, he didn't clip him from an angle… Hockey play gone wrong is all that was. The only reason Borowiecki got wacked is because all eyes were on him already. Totally unfair.
body on body. did not target head. feet did not leave ice. feet not moving when contact occurred. clean hit.
The officials didnt make the call which was fine. It the player safety board that is annoying
3 games
They're saying his name wrong. Borrow-ecky
What did they actually call the 5 minute major for? If it was for the fight, that makes sense, but it's puzzling why the guy that jumped him only got 2 mins. I mean, losing the fight shouldn't get you a power play. If the 5 minute major was for the hit, did they not penalize him at all for fighting? The whole thing is bizarre.
How does the NHL suspend him when the player he hit had his head down the whole time? So are they teaching kids now a days keep your head down and if you get hit it's okay it's the other players fault and he will be suspended….
Watch Eakin's route. People aren't owls they can't see 360 degrees. This was a blindside hit. Also, if you think this is a hit to the chest you need to get your eyes checked.
