When he was replaced by Jared Bednar as head coach for the Avalanche

  2. twenty_characters020

93 Stanley Cup run. No one else could have taken that roster to a championship.

  3. SignalSky5132

I couldn’t hear because I have two Stanley Cup rings in my ears.

  4. Viperburn1

When he got torched for nine goals his last game in Montreal and let team president at the time, Ronald Corey, who was on the bench that he had played his last game in Montreal all while the coach who left him in, Mario Trembley was watching. Absolute gold.

  5. trippingtrips13

Telling Roenik that he can’t hear him with those cup rings jammed in his ears was pretty good.

  6. Melodic-Actuary2836

When he broke the glass partition trying to fight Bruce Boudreau

  7. tuxedo7777

The abortion of the failed Statue of Liberty showboat that ended up in his net. 😂

  8. rowan_818

“Unfortunately I can’t hear what he’s saying, because I have my two Stanley Cup Rings plugging my ears.”

  9. Throwawaydontgoaway8

Him crying and leaving the ice like a baby multiple times

  10. 2006, late night round of Trivial Pursuit where we got hammered by the sports questions all night long. I need just a correct sports answer to win and the card reads “Record holder for the most NHL wins by a goalie.”

I answer Patrick Roy, and the girl reading the card says “close but I’m sorry” and I interrupt with the spelling “R-O-Y” and she tosses the card at my face.

Good times. I’m not sure of the edition of the game. Either 2001 or 2002.

  11. Snow-Wraith

When he returned to the Habs and led them to 5 consecutive Stanley Cups, sweeping Boston and Toronto each time in the early rounds.

Shit, I’m not supposed to reveal stuff about the future.

  12. mastergriggy

I can see that Red Wings fans have a very distinct set of memories compared to everyone else.

  13. AffectionateFlower3

Probably when his kids had to start calling him Uncle

  14. Proudly trying to show off a caught puck and accidentally throwing it in the neck. Honestly though there are so many, such a legend for so many reasons

  15. Infamous-Lab-8136

Watching him obsessively try to score a goal his final seasons as a player here in Colorado. Taking advantage of the fact there was no rule about how much a goalie’s stick could be curved, having a special stick made that he’d go get when an opponent was about to pull the goalie.

It was just so him, yeah, you’re going to put an extra man on ice to shoot at me, but I don’t care, I’m focused on scoring because I know you can’t. Don’t get me wrong, I love all the quips big wins, and moments he gave us, but that was what made him human to me, wanting that damn goal so bad.

When he thought he had it in his glove and Shanahan showed him he didn’t by putting it in the net. I don’t remember laughing this hard watching a hockey game since

  17. Carlo201318

When he stick handled the puck across center ice at MSG

  18. moderatesoul

The whole 1993 Stanley Cup run, especially winking at McSorley. Close second, “I can’t what Jeremy is saying because I have my 2 rings blocking my ears”.

  19. Years and years of being the best. Despite what people say he was the best. I always knew the Avs were a shoe in to win every game regardless of anything, and they won a great amount when he was goalie.

  20. The only swing of emotions that tops ‘HE HAS TROUBLE WITH THE SNAP’ is the 2002 WCF Statue of Liberty play.

  21. Single_Expression499

When he got chased in the 2002 conference finals.

  22. haegarmeister56

2003 playoffs first round game 7 OT vs Minnesota

  23. trutlesrus

I know it’s nothing spectacular, but the Panthers v Avs series. Roy and Vanbiesbrook were just incredible that season and is the reason why I decided to be a goalie back then.

  24. FlyingEagle57

St Patrik Elias is the only Saint I pray to.

  25. fastal_12147

I liked when he gave up that OT goal to Andrew Brunette then quit.

  26. terror_zone

Getting lit up by the Red Wings and getting smacked around by Vernon and Osgood

  27. when we racked up hella goals on him and got his ass out of montreal. when both our goalies who were half his size toppled him to the ice. now i focus on the patrick kane moments. where’s that thread at?

  28. DarkIllusionsFX

The Red Wings scoring 8 goals on him and running him out of Montreal.
