Rumour: Elliotte Friedman discussed on Saturday Headlines that Hurricanes Head Coach Rod Brind’Amour is optimistic on a contract extension after the season but wants to see his assistants taken care of first.

Not really a rumor. We knew this from last time. Dundon has been crystal clear that it’ll get done. Must be a slow news day for Friedman
It’s nice to see him care of his staff as well as himself.
It’s all but inevitable- pay this man (and his people) whatever to retain him, he’s going nowhere
The amount of non-canes people that think he gets fired if they don’t make it to/past the ECF is probably why Friedman is bringing it up. I don’t think they understand what he means for the club.

Everyone’s gonna get paid, it’s just a question of when. I’m sure Rod, Tom and Don would rather take care of this after the postseason
I cannot imagine Rod not getting resigned UNLESS there is MASSIVE pay day elsewhere worth uprooting his life for.
This is not unusual.
I hope the huge increases in the season ticket costs for next year go directly into the pockets of Rod and his coaches.
Don mentioned to Ruff on his podcast he does for the team at the deadline they would hope to have something done soon.
These things get taken care of behind closed doors and most likely have been done for a bit now. No real worry that they don’t come to some agreement Rod is happy as can be right now.
Edit: this is a giant nothingburger. Listening to the pod he uploaded today at 48 min they discuss and he admits he talked to Rod about this. He said Rod was carful with his words and was optimistic, and that he called around and was told that remember what happened last time? He confirmed with that source that Rod wants his assistants paid. However he believes there’s nothing that’s going to stop them from a deal. He was pining for info, provided what he found but, sounds like typical Rod/Don talk. They don’t say anything public and we will see it handled behind closed doors.

Let’s hope Dundon finally pays this man what he’s worth. The last time these were the headlines, the result was Chynoweth walking and Brind’Amour receiving a middle-of-the-pack salary.
