From a pure goal scoring perspective, I’m ready to have that discussion. From an overall hockey perspective, no. Gretzky’s number is retired for a reason. He is the goat.

Not making an argument either way, but with the evolution of goalie pads has also been an evolution in all gear. It is a million times easier to rip a slapper with a carbon stick and its flex vs. the wooden sticks Gretzky used. Not to mention skate technology is friggin’ next level vs. 30 years ago. Not saying those are the only reason Ovi is so good, but if we’re gonna say goalie gear is completely different, we should also recognize skater gear is just as different.

Ehhh… Vasilevskiy and Shesterkin were more the latter half of Ovi’s career. He had quite a bit more time with Carey Price and Henrik Lundqvist.
