Tie Domi/Scott Niedermayer incident – 2001 playoffs

This is the famous incident between Tie Domi of the Maple Leafs and Scott Niedermayer of the Devils. It’s from game four of the team’s 2001 second round playoff series.

In the dying seconds of the game, Niedermayer viciously headbutts Domi’s elbow. To make a bad situation even worse, Niedermayer then lays down on the ice for a nap, refusing to leave until they bring him a portable bed.

As a direct result of this incident, Domi was unable to play again until well into the next season.

  1. That was among the most cowardly acts I've seen. Together with his punch on Samuelsson. This guy Domi must certainly be missing something that most other people have.

  2. Domi did to Neidermeyer what Stevenson had been doing to everyone. Those teams hated each other. One thing about hockey, cheap shots are never forgotten and payback will happen.

  3. Cost the. leafs a chance at the Cup

one of the Biggest Bonehead moves of all time

  5. I know this video was put up years ago but JIC anyone didn’t read the description of the video, the following is how the incident was described, hysterical:
