There was ZERO gamble a first round pick for a second line player is a great trade nothing to think about.Albeit it is a Winn pick which is closer to a second rnd pick but imo Hughes had something in mind and got it.
If you want to talk about a gamble you could say that Monahan has few miles and could still be quite viable still 3-4 years from now.I would argue that Monahan had more value than Newhook whom we gave a first and second for point being I would have rather kept Monahan than Newhook.
It was win win for both team IMO, Monahan is doing really great with Jets. Fair trade IMO.
Imagine if habs resign in this summer if we get no good forwards in draft !
