It looks like he gets a bit of his side not just straight #’s and he’s super far out from the boards so he shouldn’t expect Byfield to go in like that. Still stunned he didn’t get called for it.
The hit was unnecessary but I don't think it was dirty. First thing I learned when I started playing ice hockey was how to fall. My coach was very very big on his players knowing how to fall correctly especially if you're headed into the boards. Unfortunately decided to eat the boards instead of turn his back to them Which I've done many times playing for over 30 years. Unnecessary, not dirty.

The head off the dasher seemed a little sus… trying to draw a penalty? Hmmmmm.
Though angle is tough to say (hit from behind) looks to be 10 feet from the boards, no call is correct
