I find it difficult to analyze Yzerman at this point. The NHL, like MLB, has a minor league system because players need to develop and are not ready (for the most part) to enter the league directly out of the draft. Cossa, Edvinsson, Pellikka, Kasper, Danielson, Mazur, Wallinder, and Buchelnikov are all being developed. The Athletic has the Wings as having the second best prospect pool in the NHL (this is done with Detroit not receiving the top pick). By the end of the Ken Holland era, the team was in the dumps and loaded with long contracts. I know patience is a sucky word for Detroit fans who have waited forever across the professional sports landscape, but it is essential when focusing on the NHL.
Yzerman has put a rebuild together with trash drafts and for A rebuild there avg age is 29 yrs old already…. If there not in there prime now when are they gonna be cause there not getting younger. How many years are they away from a title shot… cause if its 3 years your not about to tell me a group of 32 yr olds are the answer… and any elite level will be short lived… Id much rather be a team coming together at a young age with prospects every where you look on the team and in AHL. Like the Sabres with the youngest team in Hockey and running ya down to close
I'm going to the game tomorrow. If wings fold again I'm 100% initiating the fire Lalonde chant. He lost the room when he defended the refs instead of Larkin. And his comment after the Washington game how this team doesn't have any superstar talent literally ruined their confidence. This is 100% on Lalonde and his lack of confidence in his team. I've never heard a coach shit on his team so much even after a win. There's a time and place and he does it when it's least necessary
