Sabres Get Outmuscled In Vancouver – Postgame Thoughts

Hi good evening everybody yes time to talk about yesterday’s game as I’m making the video right now not a fun result not a fun game to watch either coming [Applause] up as frustrating as that game was to watch I’m going to say one thing in the sabers defense it wasn’t like they gave

Up in the game they were just really outclassed they were outclassed and out coached in my opinion in that game T had had the boys going over there just going and they were non-stop they didn’t take the foot off the pedal with us and they could have when it was two nothing they

Could have said we got them you know they didn’t do that and the Sabers scored and um kind of made it a game but then you know empty neck goal Dalene scores again after and U the empty neck goal is but you know you can look at and

Say oh we lost cuz of an empty net goal we lost cuz we were outplayed guys we were outplayed in that game the better team won uh I got no uh qualms with it whatsoever the better team won that game they were faster more aggressive on the

Boards guys much more aggressive on the boards they were more physical than us they weren’t intimidated whatsoever you know but they knew they they played put this way they played smart enough to not take us for granted they came at us as hard as they

Could just in case the sabes as as they know they know smart enough team to know that the Sabres have explosion potential when it comes to goals so we’ll take a look at the numbers guys and I thought Devon Levi was Stellar in this game he was

Absolutely stood on his head at certain points of the game I have no complaints guys I just don’t it it sucked we lost but I really don’t have any complaints cuz as far as I was concerned considering it was a backto back and I don’t like to use that as an excuse but

It is uh I thought we played as good a game as we could and lost as close a game as we could you know we could have just been so much worse you know but anyway let’s look at the numbers we’ll talk about it okay shots on goal

3417 for the Canucks in the game they had 59% of the face off we had 41 they were one for five in the power play the Sabers 0 for four they had 34 hits in the game the sabers had 18 they had 23 blocks we had

14 they had six giveaways we only had two they had seven takeaways we had four shots and goal per period 157 Canucks in the first 103 Canucks in the second they really smoked us I thought in that period too 97 Canucks in the third for that 347 total

Scoring and Garland from Hughes and Peterson at 406 makes it uh 406 makes it one to nothing and I thought it was a boneheaded call by by um Granado uh challenging that what a stupid challenge guys what a stupid challenge one- nothing after one second period Elias

Peterson is in gets his first goal of the game from Miller and Hughes and it’s two nothing Canucks on the power play they head to the third and and Dalene on the backand makes it 2 to one at the 923 Mark and then empty net 1809 Elias Peterson with his second at the

Game puts it away 3 to one and then delene scores at the 1938 Mark and pulls us within one but too little too late I was frustrated watching this and I wasn’t frustrated believe it or not the saber effort just wasn’t it wasn’t really that I was frustrated at their

Lack of physical play because I know like when you’re on a a back toback I get your legs kind of you know and we’re young so there’s no excuse there either but we’re young team and to keep up with a Canucks team we needed to be fresh going in let’s be

Honest here this team is really good I thought that we could have played more physical though in this game and they took the body to us way more they were they were much more punishing you guys seen it in the corners when they when we throw the puck out they’d finish

Their hits you guys seen it that’s what I want the Sabers to it’s what I’ve been bitching about all year but this is talking there’s a big big difference of Rick talken my my friends than uh than Don Granado when it comes to physical play of a hockey team this guy believes

In it he’s old school he’s from the 80s I seen his career he was always a rough and tough player and he believes in that style of play also of course he’s adapted to the ingame of now the fast tempo but at the same time finish your hits finish your hits you

Know and I’m sure he stresses this to the team this is why they’re one of the top hitting teams in the League this year this team has all the weapons to win the Stanley Cup this team they’re fast they hit they got goal tending they got coaching they got everything yeah

The Vancouver cans this could be a team that breaks through and wins The Cup this year they could win the Stanley Cup this team they have the tools to do it so things could uh things could happen now Devon Levi let’s talk about the the bright spot of this game which was Devon

Levi I was very happy with his game and that first goal he got in they got lucky in the second goal folks they got lucky they you know I thought they got lucky on both really uh but you know they fought hard they fought hard this team this Vancouver team they just chipped

Away chipped away chipped away till they scored and then did it again very determined hockey team yesterday the Canucks is what I seen the Canucks looked like they were the team desperate to make the playoffs you know but again um I’m not holding my head down about

This game it just sucked that the out of town wasn’t nice to us either Detroit tied their game with like 15 15 16 17 seconds left and then won it overtime and of course Kane is showboating on the ice I’m like oh my God you know and and

Detroit fans are are saying like he’s the reason they’re in the playoffs and all this and they don’t realize they’re under 500 with this guy in the lineup or right about 500 you know it’s when they have Dylan Lin that they’re winning and when Dylan Lin scores I might want to

Mention that last video I did when Lin scores the Red Wings are 191 and three when he scores in a game keep that in mind as Detroit stretch run happens Lin doesn’t score they don’t win usually not as much that’s for sure um yeah so that’s it guys this

Sucked this one hurt this one burned we’ll just see what happens in there’s nothing else we can do you know we’re powerless we just have to like root them on and hope that uh because we’re in the same position we were last year we’re not looking too redh hot and

Then the sabes you might recall turned it on last year and don’t forget Devon Levi was part the big reason really he was the big reason why now we got Lucan and Levi here both a year older Lucan and’s come of age Levi’s a year older so and Levis look

Good in the minor so no matter what way you cut it I think our goal tending is there for the stretch run we’ll see what we can do if you were to ask me to make a a call what we have to finish guys 92 and one you

Know 92 and one and that’s a stretch that’s a stretch the Sabers got to finish red hot you know if they could I think 10 games over 500 is going to get a team in this year put it that way I think 90 points is going to do

It yeah I think 90 points is going to do it for the final playoff spot so if the sabes want to get 90 points they got to get 19 out of a possible 24 points it’s a stretch even that he but it’s still possible we did that last

Year so let’s say the sabes go 10- two no overtime just 10 and two straight up 10- two yeah that would be 91 points we’d be right where we were last year um that would do it I think the Sabres win 10 or or last 12 they’ll get

In but you know they need to have some luck some luck out of town I think the out of town luck will come but will our luck come will our dressing room get it done that’s another question it’s hard to tell I just want to get out of these next two

Games with wins and just hope for the best without a town and then we’ll take it from there and look at the last 10 and if the Sabers got to go eight one and one down the stretch then so be it you know if they can’t get it done then

They can’t get it done and they’ll have to learn from this year that uh you can’t be inconsistent all year long and expect just to get hot at the end and get in every year doesn’t work like that you got to have some sort of a a stable

Environment of winning you know we didn’t have it this year and I don’t think uh under Granado I have my doubts this team will get on a roll but there you never know we have the last few years it just kind of tells me that this year maybe it

Doesn’t happen maybe it doesn’t happen maybe it does and it’s a real sign of what this team’s about so we’ll see down the stretch I just hope guys like cousins find their way again I’m concerned about Dylan cousins guys I really am when I watch him play concerned about him Olson was brutally

Bad yesterday on the ice so they just bumped them off the puck like nothing a lot of things I didn’t like that I seen in the game but hey you know this is a really good team we played and we were in a back to back and the sabes are uh

Are just going to have to find their way somehow guys they’ll have to find their way and if they don’t then we’ll look at it in the offseason but I’m not giving up till the numbers say it’s really really done and we’re not there yet see you in the next video guys A

Well folks in this game the Sabres learned when you dont play all areas of a game you will most likely lose..thanks as always for watching and see you in the pregame tomorrow 👍

  1. HCDG is a joke. Canucks outclassed us. Levi shined last night. Everything on the line. HCDG splits the PP 🤬🤬🤬. The NHL elite plays their top #1 in most cases a full 2 minutes, especially when they're down.

  2. I teach boxing and understand how long it can take for lessons to be understood through experience, so I have been TRYING to understand Granato. But he was so clearly outcoached in this critical game. It took so long for the offense to finally adjust as we have watched so many times this year. At this point I want to see how different it will look with coach Lindy Ruff back on the bench or any experienced veteran coach. If the truth is we still need to let them learn then I can live with that, but right now I want to see this team with different coaching regardless. I watched Tochett’s pregame and postgame. He had great things to say about the Sabres. What a coach!

  3. 17 shots is pitful in a game you need to Win! Dont use the back to back games excuse as look at the Rags aka NYR they are 10-1 in back to back games this season. Sabres need a new 3rd line centre as Krebs isnt producing . Im not even sure Id want him back as 4th line centre .

  4. I was surprised the even scored at all. Levi kept it from being a 5-2 game. Mitts comments still incoming from Colorado should be eye opening….and not to his former teammates, but to this bunch of "coaches". He said their practices are so fast and speedy and they carry it into their game. The way it was worded (can't find where I found it earlier on Twitter(I wont call it X)) sounded like it was a vacation while in Buffalo and real work was put in on other teams.

  5. Anyone saying coaching in the NHL isnt all that important dosent know what they are talking about just look at teams like the Flyers Jets and Vancouver who all have one thing in common they have a no nonsense coach who demands one thing that is a 60 min effort every night especially Vancouver who basically has the same roster they have had the last couple years i know they made a few moves but pretty much the same team they traded Horvat and got better

  6. Levi was the reason this game was even close at all he made some amazing saves he stopped like 4 great chances that most goalies would of let in I like him as a solid backup to UPL ..

  7. Vancouver was simply the better team. Not too upset, outside of the fact that Buffalo scored what should have been the game tying goal after they allowed the empty net goal. Levi looked awesome last night. No issues with the goalies anymore that's for sure. Playing on back to back against a Vancouver team that hadn't played in three days.

  8. “Washed up” kane with another clutch game regardless of what the haters say. 38gp and 38pts. On a team everyone dubbed as “worse than the sabres”. I think it’s safe to say that he isn’t in any way, shape, or form “washed up”.

  9. Sabres have an owner who loves the Bills and let his tennis loving wife use the sabres as her pet project. She is the reason why lafontaine walked away and ted nolan would never even entertain the idea of coming back to work for the sabres in some fashion. Those are two of the nicest and most professional hockey personalities you will ever meet. Now we have a GM who is waaaay to nice and is way too slow to pull the trigger on anything. Whether it be firing a coach or trading a player. You can’t have a bad owner, a goody two shoes friendly GM annnnnd an emotionless and uninspiring head coach at the same time. The team makeup right now and their energy levels/lack of tenacity is a reflection of the coaching style. It is not going to change until the personnel is changed. Starting with the coach.

  10. I was more pissed Bluejackets blew their game against Detroit then at the Sabres. I knew that beating the Canucks was a tall order as bad as that sounds.

  11. They lost because on the power play they didn’t shoot the puck believe or not Van has been playing that good an they hadn’t played in2 days Sabres coming off back to back

  12. I refuse to watch any more games until a captain is named, if they start next season without a captain I won’t watch any games. If Okposo comes back I’m passing on the season. The only team I can think of that won a cup without a captain was Boston with Bobby Orr, one season they just had A’s. That was 50 years ago.

  13. Dahlin proving that he is the best player on the ice again, I am not taking away from anyone when I say this, but when will someone else step up with him?

  14. Cheers to 13 years! I’m disappointed in the team but they are young. Sometimes I really have to take a step back and remember this.

  15. I remember the Sabres interviewed Rick tochett years back.. of course we don’t sign him . He would’ve been perfect

  16. While I absolutely hate the extra (participation trophy) point for an OT Loss, we need to hope that any of the Sabres losses from here on out are in OT or the Shootout. It pains me to say that, but most of the teams ahead of us are only there because of it.

So if we can go 8-0-4 the rest of the way, that would put us at 91 Points. We just have to make sure those OT Losses only come from teams we’re not chasing.

  17. Levi was beyond solid, he looked like he was under siege for most of the game. Everything Granato does/fails to do is so f'n annoying, I can't stand this guy already!

  18. Levi played great. But with that being said… Granato should have played his AHL call-up in the Kraken game and his NHL stud with 5 shutouts in the Vancouver game. Slightly risky in the sense that it could result in 0 points but gives you the better chance at getting 4 points. We need all the points we can get.

  19. If you didn't see the game (like me), the tale of the tape tells you everything. outshot 2-1, outhit 2-1…nuff said
