Trotz recalled that one of them said his biggest regret was not keeping veteran players around who could help shape a team’s culture during a retool. “He said, ‘Our thought was to let the kids play and just go from there,'” Trotz said. “But what happened was the kids didn’t develop because they were trying to survive and just couldn’t develop. So you need to insulate some of those young guys.””
This is such a huge part of how we’ve come together as a team instead of collapsing into ourselves after failures. Yes the system is new and yea most of our players are still building chemistry but it’s the vets leadership/mentorship that have taken us from yet another .500 season/bottom 10 season to where we are now.
I know he gets a lot of flack from us (myself including) but Schenn has got to have such a locker room presence to still be one of our starters and I’ll always appreciate that. Let us hope he pulls a “Cole Smith” on us where most of us finally start to actually root for him and celebrate immensely when he succeeds.
