I feel like every single series would be a toss up except maybe Philly

  2. popculturetommy

Wild that if they still did the 1-8 seed, the only ones that would be accurate are the VAN/VGK and BOS/DET.

They’re so worried about these huge rivalries in the first round but 1-8 would heed NYR/PHI, Battle of Florida and DAL/EDM.

    But I digress.

Keep the divisions for schedule matching but a straight up 1-8, 2-7, 3-6, 4-5 per conference would be better imho.

I really cannot decide if Iā€™d want to see Philly in round 1. They are playing us like the Isles did over the last few years. We should rock them on paper but never seem to play well against them. Last nights game is a perfect example, we barely stole that game and I donā€™t think Philly was playing as well as they have been recently.

    Florida-Leafs would be a blood bath šŸ˜«

Can we really say confidently ā€œIf the stanley cup playoffs started todayā€? Iā€™d argue teams with a higher point percentage but ranked lower would like a chance to get the better seed

  7. Rockterrace

Yes!! Get rid of wild cards and 1-4 make it in each division. Play your way through your division then Win your conference then play for the cup. The perfect setup

  8. mattcojo2

I donā€™t care about that. Itā€™s fine the way it is.

Rangers need to abuse this wretched model and finish 2nd on purpose.

The irony is they want to protect rivalries but one of the beauties is the 1-8 model creates new ones.

See: Dallas/Edmonton back in the day.

See you all tomorrow when this is posted again for the 7th time in 7 days.

Iā€™m not saying Iā€™m a huge fan either way but if it changes I can almost guarantee Iā€™ll find a post saying how much better the divisional matchups were. At the end of the day you gotta beat 4 teams in a best of 7 series. Doesnā€™t matter who you play

  12. NatureIndoors

Did you forget Boston lost to Florida last year?

  13. SageOfSix-

sharks fan here, can you guys explain why? iā€™m not arguing im just asking because i have no clue whatā€™s going on in the rest of the league. i havenā€™t watched much of this season obviously

Avs-Stars and Panthers-Leafs are banger 1st round matchups that should not be happening in the 1st round tbh

I already figured Bettman did this on purpose to decrease predictability of the playoffs in the 1st round, but it does seem unfair to teams with more competitive conferences

  15. NY-Black-Dragon

I’d rather not see Tampa in the 1st round, but I guess it beats Florida, Carolina, or Boston.

You know what I am so excited for the playoffs this year, there are going to be so many good series. I wish we had the 1v8 format though.

  17. Dash_Rendar425

The top teams deserve to have an easy go first round (well as easy as they can get in the playoffs), because they’ve earned it.

Teams like Vegas and Vancouver shouldn’t be facing each other in the first round. What a joke.

  18. Lady-Aurorah

Nooo lol, I like this match up for my Red Wings.

Nothing against the Bruins, but we have a winning record vs them this year. And I rather play them than Florida (I don’t like watching Tkachuk and Cousins haha. And how the Panthers are a pain after the whistles, but don’t get calls). Or NYR (mostly because Rempe lol).

  19. Tiger5804

The playoff format is fine. The better team should win a strong majority of Bo7s, and the format allows every deserving team to get in, so it’s a fair format. Any team that loses in the first round should expect that they would’ve lost eventually no matter where they start in the bracket, and this format gives the best matchups from an entertainment perspective of all potential formats that accept all deserving playoff teams.

As much as I don’t wanna play Florida in round 1 (and that is *a lot*), these matchups seem pretty fresh and interesting?
