What Killed the 2023/24 BUFFALO SABRES?

What’s going on ladies and gentlemen it is Cal here from Buffalo sports center and today we’re going to be talking about the Buffalo Sabers yet again and where it all went wrong this season I mean there’s a ton of stuff that the Savers could have done better this year

There’s a couple things the Savers actually did better than expected at this year but let’s talk about kind of the negatives of this season I mean again it’s not over yet but the Savers are pretty much mathematically eliminated minus going undefeated the rest of the year let’s be real that’s

Not happening just a disappointing season overall but my main thing is just the lack of production from these players I mean again the coaching has been bad we talked about the power play Matt Ellis running that it hasn’t been great you look at Don Granado from the head coaching position he just hasn’t

Been great either I haven’t liked his media responses it almost seems like he’s on the way out but the same you know at the same time it doesn’t look like he’s on the way out because that’s not what the Sabers do the Sabers you know seem to give him a little bit more

Confidence it almost seems like Kevin Adams is almost assuring us that he’ll be back next year we’ll see what happens with that but let’s talk about the players so first things first let’s talk about some positive some pros this year number one Rasmus Dalene still a superstar great to see because we all

Know if dalen is not playing good any given night we almost don’t have a a shot I mean he is our Rock back there future Captain most likely so yeah let’s just go through his stats so far so he’s played 70 games at the time of this recording 17 goals which hey that’s

Pretty darn good for Dalene I believe that’s a career high 35 assists with 52 points so again pretty solid pretty darn good for a defenseman for your star on your team you know you’d like to see somebody jump him um you don’t really want a defenseman having the most points

I mean I guess it’s fine but but he’d have a lot more if that power play was clicking uh a negative s though in the plus minus so that’s not great and 46 penalty minutes that’s that’s a little bit of a concern you watch a Savers game

That’s my only critique with dalen he’s in the Penalty Box every game I mean the guy cannot stay out of the Penalty Box other than that though fabulous year for Dalene then we go to Alex tuck I mean second on the team in points this was a

Shocker to me because Alex tuck has kind of been invisible this year I mean compared to previous years where he’s kind of that bold that you know Sparks the energy flashes down the ice you know gets that timely goal he hasn’t been that guy this year but we look at the

Stats 19 goals 28 assists 47 points and a plus one that’s pretty darn good for Alex tuck so again you could expect more and you can expect more with every single player I’m about to list but that is not bad for Alex tuck then we go to

Jeff Skinner Skinner 24 goals leads the team in goals that’s what he’s on the team to do right score goals he’s doing it can’t complain with that 21 assists 45 points a negative one on the plus minus not bad I’m not complaining about Jeff Skinner sure is his defense bad

Sometimes yeah but that’s what you’re going to get when you have you know your team leading goal scorer out there he’s not known for his defense it is what it is fourth on the team in points JJ PKA I mean I’ll continue to say it resign JJ

PKA JJ PKA still is not where I want him to be as a player I think once he gets that you know that you know that extra mode of confidence I think he’s really going to propel his game to a superstar level you could just see him he shows

Flashes of being a superstar his shot is absolutely Wicked he has the Jets he can fly on the ice the issue is just that confidence you know he doesn’t really take the puck take charge as much as I’d like to see but I think another year that’ll you know definitely improve and

JJ petka once he starts putting the moves on and stick handling through guys with that shot and speed watch out Tage Thompson next up again injury you know kind of killed the season there but he still played 60 games 21 goals only 22 assists disappointing year for Tage then

We got Dylan cousins which I made a video on him in the beginning of the year he kind of improved a little bit but just a a disappointing year for cousins he just doesn’t look like the same player um again people are going to say oh it’s because he got paid it’s

Because he got paid no it’s it’s not he’s dealt with some injuries this year but overall it’s a confidence thing and it’s a confidence thing with this whole team but yeah I mean that’s my major concern with Dylan cousins is we just signed him to a big deal and all of a

Sudden he doesn’t look like the same player hopefully you know he turns up a little bit but again 15 goals not going to cut it then we got Owen Power Six goals 22 point or 22 assists 28 points ow and power I mean solid year uh again

I have my gpes with ow and power I think again confidence the word of the day he lacks I think when he shows confidence he rushes into plays He he’ll jump passes jump pucks and you know when he’s aggressive and shoots the puck he scores

And we’ve seen that we’ve seen him go on these confidence runs where he’s consistently putting the puck in the net and putting the puck in great areas and then we see the Owen power that fiddles with the puck in his own end pins it against the boards doesn’t use his speed

Um you know turns the puck over in his own end you know passes it horizontally instead of vertically we see it all the time so again give him a couple more years I think he’s going to be fine but right now it’s a little frustrating uh then we have birum Greenway Benson I

Think I’d gr uh you know put all these three guys in the same group solid years um again berum I’m not really going to comment too much on because he’s a very new edition uh but we look at a guy like Greenway 24 points nine goals I guess

You know what can you expect Zack Benson nine goals 14 assists 23 points again he’s young he’s 18 years old uh I I think he’s a little small he’s a little underweight and you know that can definitely uh improve over time and again once he gets his man muscles as we

Saw Dalene develop I think he’ll kind of have that same progression he’s got the skills we’ve seen it I mean he’s had a couple pretty goals as first NHL goal was freaking through the legs what more can you ask so bright future for him but again again I mean disappointing sure

Nine goals I mean you would have liked to see more but can’t complain then we have Olson seven seven goals again he only played 44 games but he’s not a part of this team going forward there’s just no right no way Yoki how are you lifting all right years nothing to really write

Home about Payton Krabs now let’s talk about Krabs I mean this guy you know he’s been on bad lines he’s been on good lines he just can’t get it going I don’t know what’s wrong with Krebs I loved Krebs the first year he was here you

Know known for his great pass and great mind this year he just looks so small and it it really is just I I don’t even know how to explain it I mean I watch KBS play the game and you know he he’s just he’s not clicking on all cylinders

And something’s wrong with CBS I don’t exactly know what it is but again 69 games you only have three goals 11 assists 14 points he is a plus4 though so he’s not a not negative but again you have to have way more production and I

Know he was on a bad line for most of the year I get it but again Krebs is on that line to be the productive guy and he he just hasn’t done it so again Krebs is still very young though too a lot of fans forget that so you know stay calm

With him but I wouldn’t be surprised if they move him or even you know put him on waivers send him down the AHL he’s still very young if they could make it happen and you know call one of these other guys up because remember the Sabers have the best prospects in the

League doesn’t really matter right now but we’ll see then we go to zus gurgenson as of L’s been playing okay but again another disappointing year seven goals five assists it is what it is and you know Z gurgenson is not as physical as I would like him to play

Then we have guys like Quinn Jack Quinn had a great year uh but unfortunately only played 17 games had two major injuries it is what it is I liked what I said uh Eric Robinson you know he he’s okay 10 10 points three goals and 42 games I guess that’s not really that

Great but with us he played okay then we get into some injured guys or guys that didn’t play all the time samelson Bryson J Cay and rusek just Clump them all in one group no one really stood out so you know we went through the whole team right now disappointing absolutely

Disappointing I mean you got to have someone that’s you know way above ding in points you got to have someone way above ding in goals and just hasn’t really happened so that is unacceptable let’s move to the goalies for a little bit um you know first things first ukap

Pakal lukanin again coming off an eight goal against game but other than that a fantastic year I mean 912 save percentage and again this eight goal game is going to really hinder his stats uh but you know his record 238 and0 um and then uh three overtime losses there

For him and he I mean I got to say he you know 23 18 and0 is is not bad for you know your goalie especially the way he’s played I think he is going to have a fantastic season next year but we’ll see then Levi played 21 games went 98 no

Not bad with the two OT losses there um again Devin Levi had some problems earlier in the year but I think he proved to us all against Vancouver that he’s still a solid option and uh only has room to grow and then we have what really killed the season Eric kmer he

Played nine games went one seven and0 I I mean that’s where we’re the video Eric hry get him off my team please uh you know great guy but really one win in nine games unbelievable so thank you guys for watching let me know what you guys think was the mad like the biggest

Issue I guess you could say for this Buffalo Sabers team personally lack of production the power play we go on and on but it definitely wasn’t goal tending I’d say it was definitely lack of production and lack of finishing let me know in the comments what you guys think
