  1. Phil Kessel deserves to be assistant captain for the Pittsburgh Penguins, correct me if I'm wrong, and please respond to this comment and leave a like

  2. Kessel was probably just misunderstood and once he came to the Penguins he was in a situation where he could feel more comfortable in his skin and it's allowed him to grow on a lot of people. I wondered if he'd get tired or irritated with the constant hot dog references but he clearly has a great sense of humor and went with it. Go Phil!

  3. This is probably my favorite hockey channel right now. Your very well spoken, easy to follow, and you know your stuff. I like how you don't need this big recording studio. All you need is a camera and sometimes a white board.

  4. With out Kessel I don't think Pittsburgh would have won back to back ever think about that guys.

  5. Kessel won the cup he can eat all the hot dogs he wants out of it for the day. Congrads to him and the Pitts Pens. Next year or the year after that Toronto players will be eating hot dogs out of the cup. All thanks to good drafting and trading away Kessel.

  6. They joked about Phil with hotdogs in Pittsburgh too! There's a funny video of Geno pranking Phil where they gave him a chair for a stall.

But I agree that it's definitely a middle finger to his haters that always bring it up lol
He's definitely not a number 1 guy, he doesn't thrive with all eyes on him like he was in Toronto. The Toronto media is great when your winning and horrible when your losing and they seemed to know how to push his buttons. I'm a leafs fan and you could tell as soon as he got to the microphone that he was going to have a hard night on the mic. I've grown to see that there may have been a bit too much pressure on the guy and really I mean good for him man, 2 cups can't argue with that.

  7. I had the pleasure of drinking beer out of the soccer cup here in San Antonio when the Scorpions won their only championship. I understand that some people might take issue with a trophy. I don't see any issue as long as it isn't damaged. But then again it's my opinion. I understand others might have other feelings about it.

  8. Phil doesn't like addressing the media that often.

Toronto media (3x the size of Pittsburgh media) would always want to interview Phil because he was one of their best players. When it hit the fan – Kessel got most of the blame for being 'out of shape' 'lazy' 'un-coachable' 'having a lack of motivation' etc. when Toronto management was to blame.

Fast forward to Pittsburgh – he is now the 4th or 5th best player (71, 87, 58, 30, 81) when they lose, it's Malkin or Crosby or Murray taking the heat. Phil gives an interview 1/10 games all season. Us fans in Pittsburgh could give a sh*t if he gives interviews as long as he produces. 2 Cups later he hasn't disappointed us yet.

  9. I feel sorry for the Flyers still. They should have been the Cup favorites every year but never came any closer of reaching the Finals or winning the Cup. It hasn't been a successful run in over 40 years with so much frustration in the team's history. I hope with guys like Claude Giroux, Wayne Simmonds, Jakub Voracek, Sean Couturier and Shayne Gostisbehere, they will become a better team and revive the glory days of Clarke, Parent, Schultz, Barber, Leach, etc.

  10. Can you do top 50 NHL players like the hockey news did bc Idk if I completely agree with it

  11. tongue In cheek chow down …. just one his second cup in a row –  he can do what ever the hell he wants on the cup day…well deserved!!    suck it Toronto as he was your lightning rod for way too much abuse —–   relish and mustard sounds good as well..lmao…   GO PHIL!!!!

  12. The cup was at the bottom of Mario's pool…lol
Look, everyone has their own personality and Phil is one hell of a good guy. Can't question his desire to win especially after seeing him put Malkin in his place. I do question his work ethic though…but that's because he COULD be in better physical shape. The echo from Toronto was that he was "uncoachable"….and it couldn't be further from the truth. Glad he's here in Pittsburgh, really hope he stays.

  13. Phil Kessel needed to follow the yellow brick road this is the perfect team for him went from outhouse (Toronto)to Penthouse team with 3 Hall of Famers Crosby,Malkin,Letang Ceo of team one of two greatest players to ever play Lemieux great fans he is a cult hero in Pittsburgh loved by fans won Back to Back Cups with Pittsburgh going for 3 peat first time in 35 years. Phil is good people, good things happen to good people.

  14. Well. Ok eating is sort of not totally respectful. However, everyone who wins the cup drinks out of it. So is it that much different to eat out of the cup as well as drink? Not much different. And hotdogs? Kessel has a dry sense of humor. Love the guy.

  15. Kessel rarely speaks to the media in Pittsburgh. It’s not really something he’s asked to do with Sid, Malkin, Letang, Murray, Hornqvist etc

  16. I think if you asked every hockey player "do you want to talk to reporters?" 99% of them would say no. Canadian hockey markets are notorious for the relentless coverage. Most of these guys put enough pressure on themselves without the media piling on.
Kessel may have seemed like a reluctant interview in the locker room, but his team mates always appreciated what he gave to the team. Why do we need tv cameras in a locker room?! Think about how weird that is. I think if the media backed up a couple steps and gave these guys some time, the responses would be more forthcoming and I bet the level of play would increase. I think they would be better players if they could just play. The media needs to let them.

  17. Canadian and when my cousin won the Stanley Cup they parties hard. Always weird seeing family's and kids drink out of it. I know they wash it. But if that trophy could talk. It would say some of the best players ever blew lines and had that it bed with girls…just saying it's true and awesome. If Canada boys are single they show the cup to there parents. Then the boys go hard at the bar
