Who cares. The NHL is a dying league. 12 team super league around the corner.
Calgary & Edmonton will make a Trade in the next little while!!.. Both teams need each player up for grabs.
If the oilers don’t make the finals or win the cup, I can see him at least tempted to leave

Pens? No retool, no retinkering, REBUILD. Sid will never win another Cup in Pittsburgh. But he can definitely win a Cup playing for any one of a number of other teams. Pens' core is too old to lead this ream to another Cup.
Draisaitl is headed south, book it.
If they do not win the cup this year the chances of Leon leaving will be pretty high so therefore the Oilers should look to get the biggest haul as possible this summer bc the likelihood of him being shipped at the trade deadline will be slim given the fact Edmonton most likely will be a top contender and cannot sell … And sadly, rinse & repeat with McJesus the following season… Offcourse it will not be popular but if they can rebuild fast with the hauls they will get for both players… The alternative is to lose them for nothing which is IDIOTIC!!!

Penguins have 2 options at season's end.
1. Retool during the off-season, look for depth players with decent contracts to play alongside Crosby and Malkin, then make the move to rebuild at the trade deadline if things go south leading up to it.
2. See about trading Crosby and Malkin during the off-season if they can get the right returns for both (may have to add sweeteners or retain salary if possible).

If the Leafs can have a dozen guys making 7 figure contracts (seems like it anyway) i'm sure the Oilers can figure out a way to make both Connor and Leon happy, especially with the salary cap rising sharply in the next 2-3 years. It's not re-signing them that's the problem, it's how you can still field a competitive team around them.

There is no way Draisaitl leaving Oilers before he has not done at least 2 Playoff runs .If they both fail and also contract negotiation are going nowhere it might change

If you would be Drai, having played under value for the last 6 years, and suffer from bad management decisions in EDM, would you sign a new contract or give any discount?

I would not. I would want to know what MCD is doing, and i would want to know if the Oil can win.
Especially if you`re taking on 35% tax that he would not have in the US.
It might even be better to leave EDM, as they have a pretty dry prospect pipeline and structural issues. Campbell is a cap grave, Kane can turn into one, RNH is on a long term contract that might turn bad soon and Nurse is overpaid.
I can even imagine the Oilers want to tear it down, if they have another early playoff exit. Why fail the same way over and over?
If you look at a team like DET – they have a great D core upcoming. They have some pieces in play, but add a franchise forward and they can be a powerhouse soon. Oilers are in cap hell and might wanna mix it up if they don`t see any progress.
Lets say DET gets Drai and signs him to a 13m 8 year extension.
Oilers could get a package of Wallinder, Compher or Copp, Fabbri, Määttä or Petry or Husso (RS), and some picks.
DET would gain a franchise player that would fit well with Larkin and Raymond on the PP, can center a top line and would form a formidable 1-2 punch with Larkin.
EDM would gain plenty of depth and a real 2nd line Center in J.T. Compher. Wallinder is an NHL ready prospect, and Fabbri should fit well in the EDM lineup when Foegle is gone. Husso or Petry could come with RS and fill a need.
If Gretzky and Messier left Deadmonton, than why would Draisitl want to stay there when the Mall ain't the attraction it use to be and terrorists are shooting up City Hall. He's a sgood as gone
Periods #1 and #2 – Poor play from most Oilers and awful play from some Oilers including: $9 million a year defenseman Nurse (-2), lazy and defensively slow Bouchard (-2) and Skinner, who allowed 5 goals on 16 shots and finished with a 0.78 SV%. In the third period, the Oilers replaced the pathetic Skinner, and Pickard stopped all 5 shots at the goalie. McDavid/Hyman/Draisaitl tried to get back into the game, but it was too late.🤣 To win the game, the Oilers must play well for the ENTIRE 60 minutes of the game, and ALL the Oilers must contribute to the end result, not just the McDavid/Hyman/Draisaitl line)) 😇 Amen!😇
