NHL Commissioner Clarence Campbell drops the ceremonial first puck at the Flyers first game at the Spectrum in 1967.

Campbell is the namesake of the Western conference trophy, the Campbell Cup, and the West’s precursor Campbell Division/Conference.

#7 for the Flyers is their inaugural Captain Lou Agnotti, facing off against #20 Captain Ab McDonald of the Pittsburgh Penguins.

The Flyers won 1-0 in front of a crowd of 7,812 lucky fans. The game’s only goal came from the stick of Flyers center Bill Sutherland with under 3 minutes remaining.

Sutherland has a possibly unbeatable record as the only player to score the first goal in two different stadiums: the Spectrum and Long Beach Sports Arena (LA Kings) and he scored them within a week of each other.
