Ryan Johansen Gets 8 Year, 64 Million Contract from Preds

So, he can stop worrying about living from paycheck to paycheck now, right? That is a lot of term and money.

  1. I say too much bc later down the line its gonna hurt. Sens fan and I can tell you first hand how much the Bobby Ryan contract hurts. Ryan was worth the 7.2 million in the first few years when he was a consistent contributor but man does it hurt looking and seeing how many years left he has at 7.2million praying for him too play like he did in the playoffs. Hopefully Johansen isn't the same I like Nashville and he's a good solid player.

  2. It seems like the league is bad for contracts now, I don't remember money really being an issue before with trades but I was young and I suppose it has to do with the salary cap. Do you remember the first time money being such an issue that the team couldn't trade the player?

  3. As a fellow fan. With these contracts or potential buy outs. Building a team. I often consider chemistry. And professionalism.
Can this guy be depended upon? Does he work hard? As a top end guy, do the players respond to him?
Subban can't win a face off. Rinne can't score a goal.
Can Johansson go nose to nose with their best guy and give us a chance to win? I think he proved it. The way he got into Toews head. Which is not easy. Its not impossible, but it's no easy feat.
So good for him. I look forward to rematch. (if preds make playoffs??…)
    Heh.
    Go Hawks

  4. Toronto is sooooooooo screwed hahaha. This is getting ridiculous. Instead of a team's "window" closing before the best players all get too old, the window is going to be closed once all of your prospects come off of their ELCs. I think that this makes the Draisaitil situation turn ugly. I would say that knowing Chiarelli, Leon will get moved, but how do you even trade someone with, effectively, a 9 million dollar cap hit? Who do you trade him for? What do you get back? Get ready everyone, another lockout is coming.

  5. You're not wrong, Tarasenko is only making 7.5 mil and he is far better than RJ, and RJ is probably my favorite Predator. I would like to see the central dominate the entire league but with moves like this, I can't see them doing that. Unless he turns into a consistent 30+ goal scoring, David Backes style Captain, i don't see how he's worth 8 million.

  6. I realise there's this thing called inflation but GM's have just gone plain stupid. How much did Gretzky and Lemieux make per season? Are any of todays players as good as Grezky or Lemieux? Crosby is close but the answer is still no. Gee, now looks like a prime time to consider a career in hockey for the younger guys. Lucrative.

  7. I agree him getting 8mil is an overpayment. That being said he's a big body high drafted center who can score 65-70 points so I'm not surprised considering the contracts other guys get these days. Chiarelli is gonna have fun signing draisaitl at less then 9-9.5 #LockoutComing

  8. So my question is "where does it end?" In what profession do you get EIGHT YEARS of guaranteed income and job security? He is not a brain surgeon, not a nuclear engineer, not developing technology and he has not cured cancer….he plays hockey…something is wrong here. I guess the times have passed me by. Someone mentioned $150 for a tiecet to a game….after concessions, parking, babysitter etc., it probably runs around $350 – $400 for two people. I am guessing that is what many workers clear in a week. And it is the fans who support this non-sense. I have to tell you that I am on the owners' side…totally…lower the cap…raise the age for free agency….put a ceiling on what any player earns….like the NBA, don't they have max contracts? It the owners who have put up the money for the franchise…it is their financial risk…they should have the advantage. if the players don't want to play in the NHL, let them to Russia or Germany or wherever and play. But as long as people pay and everyone makes money on the fans….well then, I guess that is where we are.

  9. If we had had Joey in the Cup Final, we probably would have won the Cup. He is absolutely vital to our offense, and without him we are an entirely different team. Poile has made a living on making long term deals and taking chances on young players. This is a big deal for us. It's not like what happened with Webers offer sheet.

  10. Just saying I posted this on the avridsson video a couple days ago. Pretty close haha

Johansen will get 6.75-7.25 for 5+ years on a good contract, I'd be very surprised if he got anything less than that. I also won't be surprised if he ends up with 8 million for the next 7 years though.

  11. I think the contract might be a bit pricey but I also think the Preds absolutely need Johansen and, essentially, the eight million per year still leaves the Preds with over five million of cap space room. Plus, since there is no "No move, No trade" clause, the Preds can put him on the block if he fails to produce. I'll tell you straight up, I'm a Preds fan and I love this team and their potential. I love that Poile has signed the players one by one to keep this team together. Lost Neal to expansion but added Bonino. I cannot say as a certainty but I think the players love playing in Nashville and want to be here and I think there is a great team chemistry among the players. Just two games shy of a Stanley Cup and I think this team came away from that even hungrier. However, a team like Edmonton looks mighty scary in the western conference and Tampa, St. Louis, and Anaheim are going to be mighty good too.

  12. Just tell me what does toews make? Johansen schooled him in the first round , then the blues he schooled , and kesler or getzkaf couldn't stop Johansen in the games before he was hurt and kesler is a selkie winner what do they make ???? Yep he is worth it. But of course you want to spend less. If you can but he was gonna get 8 or poile would have gotten a better deal

  13. What did you realistically think a superstar 1st line center would get in the last year of RFA? He's locked up through his prime, there's no way that would come cheap. This is where the market is for a 1C like him. If you trade Seth Jones for someone, you better make damn sure you get him locked up.

  14. He's overpaid by $1.5 million. He had 54 pts last year although his playoff performance was impressive. This sounds like Franzen all over again.
