The Panthers had lost six of seven (1-5-1) coming in and had not won a home game since March 9.
Despite 37 saves from Alex Lyon, Florida got a pair of third-period goals from Sasha Barkov. Sam Reinhart got the only goal in the shootout.
Dylan Larkin and Robby Fabbri scored for the Wings.
Sergei Bobrovsky made 21 saves in his third win of the season against the Wings.
Florida will now embark on a four-game road trip which starts Monday in Toronto.

No one has the balls to ask about the refs.. Smh
Panthers had 1 power play and the refs couldn't deny them of it (delay of game)
We will be just fine. Todays game was a really important one and barkov came through as usual
2 opposition penalties in 2 games. Tell me there’s not a problem in the officiating.
