Honestly to me it looks like incidental contact with the leg. Kane was lined up for the hit, coming straight at the opponent, BOTH players see it coming, Doughty has plenty of time to make a decision and tries to side-step at the last second and get's clipped. Kane was square and stable while gliding toward his opponent face to face. Doughty is no stranger to physical play, he knows exactly what's happening in that situation and made the decision to avoid instead of absorbing the hit. He just didn't react in time. Unfortunate but no intent to injure in my book, to me it's not a penalty but that's me. :edited for grammar:
I live in LA, and I am a Kings fan, a Doughty fan and in no way a Kane fan. However, Doughty understandably tried to sidestep the hit. That is what caused the knee-on-knee contact. If he had not started to step away, it would have been a clean hit. Kane did nothing wrong on that play. He was just doing his job.
That set the tone for the game. Good to see Kane back playing his game, being nasty, mean, hitting everything and everyone, perfect time for the team to step up the physical game….Playoffs around the corner, can’t wait…👊🏽

There was charging, kneeing, tripping, some cross-checking, and an attempted slash…a whole plethora of fouls.
Maybe I'm just old but have you never seen a hip check before?
thats what happens when you try to avoid being hit
