[Stephan Roget] Is the solution to the Canucks’ top-six configuration as simple as playing their top six forwards together?

I like the new line combo’s but I can’t help but think that why are they not going back to what gave them the most success which was spreading the scoring throughout the lineup.

When we had Garland on the 3rd line with Joshua and Hoglander on the 4th we were getting scoring from every line and it was working. Now that Joshua is back not go back to it. Hoglander can score from any line so put him on the 4th again, Mikheyev is playing better so it could allow Petey to have more success.

Canucks currently sit 7th overall in GF and 13th in PP. As we gear up for the playoffs, the desperation to put together a top 6 isn’t as worrisome for me. It’s clear from past years that depth is what wins championships and this year, the Canucks are absolutely loaded when healthy. Once Lindholm is fully healed, we have the luxury of having him in your 3C position. I think that’s more important than just the top 6. We have a strong top 12.

Since the ASB, the team just hasn’t looked right. Maybe it was Joshua missing, who knows.

Call it copium if you like, but I just get the feeling like they’re not trying to dominate games the way they were earlier.

They were playing a heavy hitting/pressure game most of the season and turning that dial down should help reduce injuries and fatigue at the expense of winning.

Is it not letting teams scout and prepare for the team’s best deployment/system/effort? Maybe Tocchet figures he can still coach and refine the systems while still introducing a way to sandbag a bit?

I don’t think they’re sandbagging just to sandbag, but I do think they could be sacrificing effectiveness on purpose.

I really dont get why they moved away from Hog and Garland with Petey as it seemed to be working and i was excited to see how Joshua and Boeser worked with Miller.

This is an interesting combination though as well.

Other than the PP the main thing I have kind of been annoyed with from Tochett is his lines. I never understood the shit like throwing Miller with 2 4th liners a couple games ago. We should be trying to find our playoff lines, not doing that shit
