[William Leblanc] Per Stephane Gonzalez on BPM Sport, Habs management would’ve already met 4 times with Tij Iginla. They love him and he’s their main target in the 7-8 range.

I hope it is in the scenario that Catton, Demidov and lindstrom are already selected.
Yamcha_is_dead
1. Who the fuck is Stephane Gonzalez.
2. I sure hope this isn’t true, because 7-8 would be a slight reach for Tij. He’s mostly a 11-16 guy that’s being propped by his last name.
grimandnordic1
As someone who was a Flames fan when I was way younger, this is really exciting, mostly for nostalgia reasons. Jarome was my favourite player for so many years.

The Habs love to draft a late riser
Also something to consider is that Iginla is one of the youngest players in the draft, being born in August. He’s 8 months younger than Catton, for example.
FakeCrash
I am fully on board. He’s got that X factor.
Some interesting perspective on Catton vs. Iginla… Catton’s Spokane Chiefs are currently down 0-3 in their playoff series against the Prince George Cougars. Catton racked up 1.71 PPG in the regular season and currently has two assists in three games (0.67 PPG). Personally I love Catton as a prospect (note: I am not a scout) but these playoff stats are giving me pause. Of course, it’s a small sample size. Here’s hoping the Chiefs win a few games so Catton can show what he’s capable of.
On the other hand, in three games against the… Wenatchee Wild (huh), Tij iginla has five goals, zero assist.
Habs management has never met with him, never mind 4 times
My guess is a scout has seen him play and has talked to him a bit.
Would’ve. What does that even mean

This seems like a pretty terrible source. Montreal has managed to surprise at two drafts in a row. Anyone claiming they know who Montreal’s main target is at this stage of the year is almost definitely lying, and Habs management meeting with him “four times” is a big scoop that wouldn’t be coming from a random radio guy.
Iginla’s an interesting prospect, but there’s still a lot of hockey to be played and it’s a wide-open draft after Celebrini.
slafyousillier
This would be the ultimate peace offering between Marty and Jerome after that game 6 no goal call
Sora027
I hope its not true cuz that would be a terrible pick. BPA theres at least 10-12 guys better than him. Even if you exclude dmen, theres probably 6 forwards alone better than him: celibrini, demidov, lindstrom, catton, helenius, eiserman and hes not clearly better than greentree or brandsegg-bygard.
Habsfan_2000
I spent a lot of time down in the Dome with Jerome. If he’s anything like his old man it would be a perfect fit for the chemistry this team is building.
Frectozhae
This feels exactly in line with the Habs way of drafting. They like project that can be developped, and they prefer guy with bite than guys with more skills.
They also tend to draft late risers, and give a lot of importance to the important moments of a season (International play/Playoffs).
I assume this scenario is if Celebrini, Demidov and Lindstrom are gone. I think Catton and Iginla are close and I much prefer Iginla to Eiserman.
Ohhhhh that is so sweet to hear, he’s been my guy for a while
bless24
Catton is exactly what we need. He will be available at our pick. Yet, we’re thinking of reaching for a late riser. Nice.

Can scouts/teams event meet with players when the season isn’t over yet? I call bullshit on that scoop.
I wouldn’t be surprised the Habs are interested in Iginla and I wouldn’t be mad, he’s likely gonna be middle 6 but mostly on the 2nd line in my opinion. He also plays a game the habs management seem to appreciate, with hard work and a great motor.
SourMilk69420
Can someone catch me up with his play style?
Plane-Ad4820
Anyone else thinking this might be 4d chess to get Calgary to give us a haul?
3oysters
I’d be pretty happy with this tbh. I think that after Demidov, the next 5 forwards all have pretty similar chances of becoming elite within their particular skillset, and are all very different players. If we’re willing to reach for a guy in the top 10 it’s because they believe he has top 10 potential and that he’ll be the best fit for the team for the long haul. I personally love seeing that type of excitement out of the scouts, where they’re willing to put their neck on the line to draft their guy.
I also don’t get the pedestal Lindstrom and Catton are on. They are both pretty flawed prospects in their own right, as much as they are promising. They’d both be good picks I’d be happy to see joining the team, but they are not worth slapping the table over imo, not in a draft class as tight as this one.
DelugeQc
Of all the drafts, they want to gamble on one of the best one we have seen in ages… Pick the BPA ffs.

If management thinks he is the BPA when it’s time to pick, then I’m fine with it.
I also think we could move Winnipegs pick up a few spots if we traded that and Colorados 2nd, or maybe the 2nd and one of our young D-men, so we could grab him in the early teens. Most scouts have him in the ~12-15 range, but Management wouldn’t be doing there jobs if they went off of those rankings.
I was upset at the choices for our last two picks (^w^h^e^n ^t^h^e^y ^w^e^r^e ^a^n^n^o^u^n^c^e^d ) , and obviously I was dead-wrong about Slaf. So whoever we pick, I’m going to cheer for when their name is called. This management group hasn’t led us wrong yet, hopefully we can find another diamond!

“Would’ve”? So have they done it yet? What’s stopping them from meeting with him?

Alright, sir! But why 4 times? You weren’t sure after 2 or 3 meetings? Is this a smokescreen? Didn’t we also wine and dine Shane Wright?
Meese_ManyMoose
Jarome Iginla is one of my top 5 all time favourite players so Tij with the Habs makes me warm and fuzzy inside.
mikegimik
I bet they have someone who they think will be picked before them and are just chumming the water for a Flames panic trade to move up and free said potential player.
JeanJacquesDatsyuk
Im 100% on board with this. His game has Jarome’s DNA all over it. Put him with Marty and I feel like he cant fail. High floor, high ceiling. Not the biggest fan of Catton or Eiserman, and I dont see them going for Demidov. The only forward left is Lindstrom, and honestly, I think Id go for Iginla over him.

We are very close to passing Calgary in the standings. We’ve got to lose some games if we want to clinch it.
