Mark Fistric hits Nino Niederreiter from the New York Islanders at Dallas Stars game on Dec 3, 2011. Matt Martin received a double roughing minor, Fistric a single roughing minor. via http://www.hockeyfights.com
Being 6'2 ain't so big in the NHL is it Nino? Don't play tough guy/agitator then come down the wing with your head tucked down like a running back. You will get rocked everytime, and I'm glad you let it happen to yourself!
Am I missing something? Niederrreiter's head was up the whole time, stop saying "keep your head up kid". The hit goes unpunished 5 years ago but it's a different game now, like it or hate it. The suspension was consistent with other hits this season. Stop whining.
@TheGamblersCousin Tiny area? Long Island has a population of almost 8 million people. People forget that it's a stone's throw away from Manhattan. Only reason for low attendance is poor performance. The arena is not the issue, trust me.
@sh3lt0n1988 No player ever leaves their feet for other hits except for the time that they do and then they get suspended for it. Protecting the bodies (specifically heads) of players does not make the NHL a pussy league. It might be a "hockey play" in previous NHL rule sets, but not now.
@Lemieux66Burgh it's only because he jumped i'd say…otherwise it would be legal..at least it should be but jumping is dirty. ….still, he doesn't deserve a fucking 3 game suspension. The league is just going crazy with suspensions and it's sad to see to an extent. I hate the chinsy minor penalite calls far more though but for some reason no one seems to care about those – they're ruining the game for me.
Not a fan of Dallas, still remember when they stole the cup, the only time a foot in the crease goal was allowed all year. With that said, Shanahan is really starting to shit the bed in his new job, this was a clean hit. Lucic is allowed to lay out a goalie and because he says he didn't mean to there is no foul. Seems like it will be another season of inconsistency and favouritism for the nhl, What a shame, great sport but very shitty management at the nhl level.
he left his feet and it was a hit directly to the head. Suspension was deserved. All you Stars fans dont think it deserved it because youre biased and youre used to having a dirty team
Lol @ all the Stars haters. Stfu. I'm a stars fan and that was an illegal hit only because he left his feet. Dude got caught with his head down, he'll learn somehow. The refs thought it was clean?!? I like all the suspension comments, too. It was more than enough. Quit trying to over officiate the sport, or put skirts on the players. That's what the NFL is for. Buncha cry babies.
@tealsnake93 Yo say eh got caught with his head down but the video replay clearly shows Nino's head… in the upright position. 3 games was DEFINITELY enough, but a hit to the head while leaving your feet is pretty bad. This could have been 6 if Fistric had ever been suspended before
@TheGamblersCousin He sure got his head up, too late. Mark had him lined up well before the collision. You don't see a guy line you up like that, it's your own fault, THAT'S HOCKEY. I will agree that a penalty could have been called for his feet leaving the ice, but a suspension after the no-call is complete bullshit.
@blackicebandit Niederreiter was aware of the hit and was not totally head down. Yes Fistric did line him up good, BUT he also jumped up and hit Niederreiter's head. That is not necessary and how guys get hurt bad. He could have ran into Niederreiter and still destroyed him legally but the blasting up to nail his head is not good. The fact that the impact made him leave the ice is BS I have hit people hard before and never had my skates in the air unless I fell along with them.
Even if as you claim feet leave the ice on a good hit (not true) You can obviously see him thrust up with his feet on the replay even before the hit happens. he jumped up to direct the energy to his head. and your analogy about car crashes… Watch car test crashes and yes the rear wheels lift due to the momentum of the rear relative to the front but the front does not lift. And if you want to get all physics, draw some vector arrows on this collision and see how the fuck that results in up.
How is this a suspension but the Niklas Kronwall hit isn't? They both left their feet, only difference is an injury. It's essentially the same hit, yet Kronwall receives no punishment for leaving his feet. WTF Make up your mind, Shanny.

@sh3lt0n1988 ok maybe he doesn't leave his feet for all hits but clearly this one he did. there's no arguing that.

Can you even hit in the NHL anymore?

His feet left the ice before the body check, besides he aimed high at the head not a clean hit at all!!!
This was a fuckin cheep ass check

You don't go up right for someone's head that's cheap
No one cares about physics, its a cheap hit period
his feet left the ice as a result of the contact.
James Harrison thought this was a clean hit.
i miss watching old hockey clips where that would be a fine hit and the other guy would just shake it off, pussy's these days
He just stepped up, like the the D's suppose to.

@pinkfloydsman2010 shanafags's gotta protect his girlfriends on the red wings
fuck fistric
@pinkfloydsman2010 Exactly what hit are you talking about?
10 years ago: legal 20 years ago: lil bump today: good heavens you can't hit anymore what were you thinking?!?!
As a Stars fan the hit wasnt very clean, that being said it was a decent check by Fistric and I like seeing our D step up
awesome hit and kind of off topic but I LOVE Matt Martin. Would kill to have him on my favorite team.
Look at all of those empty seats.
didnt leave his feat until halfway through the check, stupid commentator
was illegal.
"Look at him leave his feet" after he gives the hit.
