No Way that Marner's salary be equal to Matthews. Auston is above everyone else on the team with his skill & salary.
Marner should get what Nylander is making. At some point the core 4 need to think about leaving some for the rest of the team so that they can build a winning team that might actually compete for a cup run. At this point, they are wasting their years of opportunity because of greed.
@leafsdigest I listen to you guys every day and I have to say that this is your worst take I have ever heard about the Marner situation. He is going to want more and you give that guy what he wants! This whole “he’s not a needle mover in the playoffs” is absolutely absurd considering he has the most points in games played in the playoffs out of any current leafs core player. He also has a plethora of primary assist on Auston Matthews goals every single season, in years past we’ve seen when players aren’t playing to potential who do they move to their like to get them going?? It’s not Nylander. Marner has lead the leafs in points every except for one year he’s been on the leafs when he has been injured, he plays first like minutes, first PP and our PP has SUFFERED since he’s been out, first PK. Marner has heart in the playoffs… Nylander shows in the playoffs when the game get physical and are tight he disappears and plays like a wuss. I’ve heard lots of people say “trade Marner” it’s pathetic. This guy is literally the reason we win a lot of game. He does all the work and feeds Matthew’s the puck in great spots. It’s pure delusion. Why does Willy deserve 11.5 and Marner stays where he is??? If this is an opinion based on facts show me where you get your facts from?? Half a god damn season?? Marner had more points in last year's playoffs than Nylander, yet people think Nylander is a great playoff performer. Typical Canadian attitude. If a fellow Canadian does well, we tend to trash them. Non-Canadians seem to be revered. Sad.

Leave it to the Leafs to overpay again. Saying he could get more than Matthews, loses all credibility you had. What a ridiculous statement. From a Toronto guy who wants to play here leaves him with little leverage. Pay him between 11.5 and 12. that's his upper limit worth. Any more and the money is better spent elsewhere.
Leafs will be signing Tavares for another 5 years. Try and replace him with anyone on any second line anywhere in the league
