All right off to a positive start anyway I’m your host Sammy styes I’m here my co-host topshelf Timmy corks Timmy how are you doing on this lovely Tuesday afternoon evening I’m doing well you know weight off my shoulder shoulders I know what’s going on with

The rest of the season so um no I’m doing overall well um kind of cold up here in Maine but I heard in Buffalo it’s pretty warm right now right yeah so we actually have been getting throughout last week a a fair amount of snow it’s

It was cold for kind of the majority of my spring break here and then it then it warmed up again so back back at school back to a kind of warm spring weather so not much complaints there what is is that big it’s the big stitching embroidery I think oh corner there

Okay interesting I I I don’t know this this was on when we got here so we’re we’re we’re learning this together that’s fine yeah anyway the Sabers during the past week I believe I’m trying to check what games actually counted as the past week the Sabers during the past week

Went only one and two so it’s it was not a great week for the Sabers as as you said kind of pointing out that it’s h that the black is fitting for what is the funeral of their season but during their Canada or kind of like West Coast trip they actually

Went two and two so for most times during the year you’d be like you know what you go through Seattle you go and then face the Canadian teams up there and you go two and two and that’s actually okay you don’t expect too much from those West Coast road trips but in

A dying season like this when you need every single point and you’re letting game slip by like if in the Canucks game where you maybe could have gotten a point out of there or in the Oilers game where it was very close right up until

The end it hurts to go two and two to go even on that West Coast trip what two and three if you’re counting the Red Wings game but oh yeah that’s that’s not West that’s a West that’s a West Coast trip and that was probably the biggest game

Well that was also the bigest game that is not I don’t really consider that part of like the West Coast trip they went out and they stay by kind of like the the Northwest border for a substantial amount of time and that did not include

The Red Wings but I that that is a tough game to lose I fully concede that but again you go through that Gauntlet of just like being on that West Coast being far from home in different time zones and you go two and two during the center

Of the SE or during the middle of the Season you’d be like that was probably pretty okay as an outcome but right now that one hurts that is a tough trip that they just went on yeah tough pill to swallow um Savers got everyone’s hope up and now I mean

What is the saying water finds this level and the Sabers of 2023 2024 found it found their level again on this road trip so I mean didn’t even really play inspiring hockey throughout the whole entire road trip that calary game was actually a 2-1 win that wasn’t a for yeah that was a

That was a close win yeah the also like the Oilers win it says 83 but it wasn’t really they they picked up a lot of points after it was over in the in the ending times there but like you still hate to see the team just give up on UK

Ukap pekcan in there that was the most disappointing one for me because it was just like you guys you guys have you I think they went into the third period tied or up one even yeah they held the lead late in the second you go into the

Third period and it might be tied or whatever and there’s just no like your your season’s on the line there’s no kick right off the gate I watched that game I stayed up for it yep and they came out third period in a game that mattered in a game that was

Tied and they just looked me they didn’t care they should have been fighting for their lives they should have been kicking and clawing like their playoffs dependent on it because it did unless they’re gonna go on a 10 game win streak in which case they still might not make it so

Right colored me shock if they go on a 10 game win streak um no uh that Edmonton game is the epitome of their whole ter season where yeah even the second half this season you’ve only been winning because of UPL and I wouldn’t even put that loss on UPL

Because Sabres did not play any defense in the third period once they got that fourth goal Edington Savers just lost all hope and just let everything come at him I mean Owen power of old earlier the season started showing up again just you know trying to poke check away away at guys

Taking untimely penalties like this road trip I mean didn’t really show well for o power um and just the defense of whole that game was just I mean what a joke I mean here they are still trying to talk playoffs before the road trip and it’s

Just like you guys don’t care you don’t care you don’t have the energy and then the fact that Granado why didn’t he pull UPL in the third period once they went up two goals three goals I mean give the guy some dignity maybe get the team like hey you

Guys are playing terrible in front of this guy someone put in the backup goenda hockey at that point but he didn’t do that he just left UPL the burnout there and you could tell he was frustrated in the his postgame press conference because like he said they were getting way too many open

Shots the Oilers at that point from very weird angles and they were able to score because he hasn’t been seen those All Season the defense actually gave up this time around yeah well the very least for the UKC Lucan in point he came back during the Flames game and that rage

Fueled him because that was definitely in a certified uko peka Luca win because he posted a 970 right after posting a 795 so yeah and he got an assist which that’s at least fun that’s at least fun for our dying season yeah give him the

Vzna now yeah I mean the goalies on the road trip showed up this time around um between UPL and Levi Levi had a solid game against Vancouver he kept the team in the game um for the most part so you know if I’m going to give Stars early

You know goalies looked great so far that’s I’m saying a foreshadowing into that the goalies definitely were looking good but yeah the team in front of that or the team in front of those goalies maybe we’re a little more shaky again even in that Flames game right like ukap

Lucan and had to post the uh 970 and get an assist for that team to wins so yeah no Definitely he was the reason why they won that game again I mean you’re playing the Flames the Flames sold sold a lot before the deadline and even earlier in the season too and they still had a competitive game against you and you guys really you didn’t sell really anyone

Important and you kind of maybe got gotten better with Bo Byam or you could argue we got better with who we got rid of too yeah except for Middle stat middle stat was an important part of our offense but getting rid of aoso and Eric Johnson I don’t think are

To your yeah yeah your team no so I mean just for the Calgary Flames to have that type of game against you is pretty I mean I know the Savers are bad but still you’re better than the flames and you should be a like on paper you look at

Both the teams I mean yeah they still have um who they hubero weager and um oh shoot Cadre yeah you have cadri I mean you have okay players but no one to really just be like whoa like this is a great team yeah um yeah and and the

Other thing that stuck out too I think was back in the the Edington game um Kane tried to call out Greenway right like he was trying to go at it with Greenway and Greenway just kind of skated away from to the bench yeah I in type of CH type of thing

I didn’t see that I kind of T turned off the Edmonton game as it got a little more out of hand but yeah I didn’t I didn’t see that I I’m not too opposed to not wanting to fight there honestly I like maybe it would have gotten the people or the team back

Into it but greenway’s never been a fighter necessarily he’s a big body and he’ll shove people but someone trying to get him to answer the bell I don’t think he’ll take so yeah I don’t know it was just like the epitome of that game was just

Getting bullied all around I mean it was it was a sad show and so not a not a fun game is is the moral of that story it was not a fun one to watch no it wasn’t so do you have any takeways from the Vancouver game at all besides Levi

Playing pretty well uh I mean the Vancouver game felt exactly kind of how I thought it would yeah as I said in the other show as we were kind of previewing that game because it was on last Tuesday it felt like a scheduled loss you know you’re playing in the backtack

You’re playing your backup goalie because you kind of wanted to secure the win in Washington and Levi played well don’t get me wrong like Levi gave this team every single chance to win yeah but that game I think was closer than it felt because they outplayed us the whole

Time I was watching it and I’m like this is how this is how a team that’s skilled and fast should be playing they played with absolute confidence they were making cross seam passes that were connecting the sticks they were Tak in just onetime shots it was they were wreaking havoc in our Zone

And not all of them went in and a lot of that is to do with Devon Levi back stopping our poor team in front of him but they were much better than us they deserve that win if we pulled out a overtime point from them we would have

Been the luckiest people in the world so I was just like yeah this is what I expected yeah but it was encouraging to see Levi play the way he did I mean to get that stunt down in the AM Merks and then come back up play an anel if even

If it’s for one game and to show up and play that way and give the team a chance to win I mean Kudos on him I don’t know did he get sent back to the ammer already or is he still up I do not know they’re trying to make the am are trying

To make their own playoff push so yeah I think if you’re not playing Levi here you may as well send him back down the AMS have recently acquired wallberg so he’s down there in Rochester getting ready to play some games and that’ll be

Exciting to see I did some um I been W I watched some Sabers Prospect um YouTube or podcast this week with Chris Baker Chris Baker yeah I recommend him if you guys want to look at uh the more the more Prospect side of it because he does

Great work he covers all the leagues and it’s a lot of information that you probably wouldn’t get otherwise so give him give him a look he’s talking prospects I never even heard of but the ones I’ve heard of there is a guy in our system that they need to try to get over

And we’ll talk about that later about prospects if you’re cool with that just because yeah no I mean I don’t think we particularly have too much to talk about I have some trivia facts pulled up because that’s the kind of week it was yeah that sounds good to me you’re

Testing my saber trivia again oh it’s it’s mostly just recent stats okay but I think some of them are at least interesting or worth a little bit of a laugh yeah did you um I really after this the Oilers loss I just gave up looking at the standings and like the

Playoff push and obviously playoff push beard has gotten shaved it’s over well so like what are the other teams doing right now I would have loved to have stopped looking at the playoff standings or the like active standings because it would be good for my sanity

However MH I do feel like as a content creator for Sabers content it is kind of a little bit my duty to look at these things so I have been paying attention and it’s doomed we’re no mostly just it like it is kind of doomed some some teams are picking up

Wins the capitals have won their last two they’re in a game right now with the Red Wings who have also picked up a few wins since uh we lost to them I think at least so we’re Five Points behind the Red Wings we are um last to check seven

Points have a wild card spot right yeah seven points behind the capitals who are 79 and they have the wild card spot the capitals and the Red Wings are playing right now so as long as one of those don’t or they don’t go to um overtime is

Kind of what you’re hoping for because they are neck and neck with each other with the capitals having a game in hand against the Flyers so you’d actually want the Flyers to win but we don’t we want both of them to lose somehow no overtime um the Flyers are playing right

Now and that’s again that’s it’s a team you could catch they are they have 81 points but the thing with them is they’ve played the same number of games as us so they are eight points ahead of us they’ve lost their last game they’re in a game right now so if they lose

They’ve played another game in front of us and they would only be still eight points ahead they’re probably gonna fall out to the capitals I think so maybe want the capitals to win and not the Red Wings that’s a whole dynamic we’re trying to figure it out right now I think you’d

Want yeah I don’t know I think at this point we might want the capitals to just run away with that uh and then because the the capitals are seven and three in their last 10 the Flyers are four4 and two in their last 10 I think that your best chance is just

Hoping that the capitals take that spot from the Flyers and that the Flyers plummet at the end of the season the Red Wings obviously we still have to beat them but we’ve got games against all three of those teams coming up in the uh final stretch of the season

So that’s some losses that you can be personally handing out to those teams so it’s not fully doomed but one you’re gonna need to win out basically I think they can only afford one loss I don’t think you can you can’t afford a loss because if you win out you’re not

Guaranteed a spot right now that’s where we’re at right now you you have to win out you have to win the next 10 games that would be an 11 game win streak I don’t think we’ve gone four so so you’re hoping Florida RS their guys the second

Last game of the season yeah you’re hoping that you get that game just Florida being Stars R their guys I know you think the Sabers can beat the stars but you know stars are a pretty good team so you have to wait for them to rest their team then you got the Maple

Leafs and I mean the Maple Leafs are still trying to make their push and show that they’re a real playoff team as well yeah a lot of teams are improving grounds right now the Savers are and then you like you said you’re going against the teams that you are fighting

For with that last playoff spot with so it’s GNA be a tough go for the Sabers at this point yep but around the league currently as we the games that we think matter based on what’s going on is the Flyers are currently beating the Rangers

Two to one end of the second there so Rangers I rarely root for you but guys come on you’re you’re the top you’re the top of the Metro right now and then the Red Wings are beating the capitals which again I kind of just it I don’t think

That one matters too much as long as it doesn’t go to overtime you just you just want a clean result there and then uh New Jersey question and Mark I don’t think we’re looking at New Jersey although technically they are still they’re in the same spot as us

They’re tied with the Leafs right now yeah you’re hoping not to have to worry about them they would also have to go on a 10 game win streak to end the season so think about the flyers do you think this is good for the rebuild process no

Yeah that’s exactly what I was thinking they’re overperforming a little bit too early I think this is there’s the kind of run that or like not the kind of run because you don’t if you’re trying to be a serious team you’re not trying to be a bubble team they’re like goal

Differentials minus eight right now they’re and they’re holding on to a divisional spot that’s how bad this wild card race is by the way like anyone who’s checking in on the East Wild Card race it’s a big yeah we have some very good teams at the

Top of our divisions but the the bottom part here the cumulative uh goal differential of the teams in the Wild Card race right now is over minus 50 so it’s it’s embarrassing this is if we if we get in it’s on the again on the backs of teams

Being terrible and not on our own uh power but that’s I mean so the reason why I’m thinking about this is because so the Flyers lost their best Prospect in Cutter goer in that trade with the Ducks earlier this season now their best p uh Prospect uh met mitkov who is actually compared

To be him and um Conor Bard were like all right maybe these guys are 1 a one B probably one two that guy’s not coming over from Russia for another couple of years yeah and I mean is Philadelphia is really not I mean yes you’re competitive but you’re really not a destination

Right at this point so you can have a good year this year and they just fall off the face of the Earth so it’s very interesting I’m very interested to see how their future goes with this as important as and we’ve seen failed rebuilds right as important as it is to

Make the playoffs there is Merit to rebuilding you see teams like Minnesota where and I I’ve talked about this before I don’t want to be a Minnesota esque team where we’re just kind of uh floundering good season yeah where you like you make the playoffs but you’re

Not you’re never a contender right this I don’t think I’ve I don’t think Minnesota’s been a contender my whole life maybe and I don’t know how many times they’ve missed the plays but it hasn’t been that many no they’ve always just kind of been The Perennial like

Yeah they’re here hi guys they’re team sometimes yeah you’re not gonna do anything sorry to any uh Minnesota fans out there but my point is that’s where the Flyers feel like they’re at right now they’re not with John torella behind the bench you’re not committing to a

Rebuild that’s not what that is yeah you managed to get a very good Prospect in mat V mechkov who’s going to come over in a few years I would be looking to like tank hard now collect a bunch of prospects that will be like good pieces for when mattv mitkov actually arrives

And then you kind of build your super team from there and like push out obviously again getting out of that rebuild is a hard task we know that but the end goal is to win a Stanley Cup and right now they’re setting themselves up to be Minnesota

So I don’t know I don’t necessarily agree with the philosophy but it they’re at least in a playoff spot so who yeah I mean but they don’t Al They also don’t have I wonder what their playoff drout is right now because they haven’t been in the playoffs for a while

Right I’m not sure I think they made it recently with I think they had a Carter Hart playoff run yeah and he’s gone too I mean yeah so they’re they’re really pading up a fast moving Stream So anyways we’re not a flyers podcast but I just want to think about that because I

Mean I guess the one benefit of the Dow is the Sabers do have a lot of prospects and good prospects I mean as much as this season stings I’m not worried about the future I’ve said that the whole run of this whole podcast like yeah this season sucks it’s terrible I hate it

Here but going forward I’m not worried about this kind of core group of prospects it feels like you can build something here maybe it requires a new coach maybe it requires a new GM although I haven’t thought that Kevin has done a bad job I know that’s kind of

A controversial opinion right now there’s a lot of people who are upset with how it’s been going but I think he’s done a fine job I think we probably need a new coach before everything comes clicking together but I think you can build with something here I’m not worried about the

Future I mean I don’t Kevin Adams I mean you’ve drafted pretty well you’ve got a lot of good offensive players that you drafted and the guy coming back today Jack Quinn I mean a lot of people hinge the season on him I mean your Co your

Head coach said Well Jack Quinn out so I mean if he’s that good of a prospect I mean that was your first first round pick so um good on him and I mean the B Vim trade to get that from Casey midd set that’s great too so um I don’t have

Any problems with him it’s more like you said said it’s definitely a coaching thing because think about it when you’re going into the next season you got your one and two or 1A and 1B goenda top four if you Rea Henry Henry Yoki Haru and now it’s just figuring out

The mess that’s forward and hoping some guys actually have some kind of bounce back from this season you you need Tage Thompson to bounce back from this season you need that you need Dylan cousins to come back to life you need Alex tuck I mean yeah you definitely need Alex tuck

Alex tuck has just had a slow year all year round but you gotta fill figure out your bottom six guys at least and fill those pieces in so um I guess a conversation that I had um it was on after the whistle you willing to trade the first round pick no

Was it after the whistle or was it um wgr either one of those it was wgr trading that first round pick this year and seeing if you can get a veteran guy I’m down for that yeah are you down for that so again the trio of guys that you get from the

Jack eel trade sets off the official like this is another rebuild this is a new rebuild you get guys from Sam Reinhardt guys from Ras m and finally prospects from Jack eel’s trade those pieces include or like the kind of like cut off for that line was you have yerri kulick Matthew

Seavoy and um Noah osland those three guys are going to come into the league in the next few years potentially two of them next year I think we’re probably going to see oand in the AHL for at least a year but my point being you’re trying to build up for that

Influx of like that’s going to be the final one you’re going to have Levi coming in from the Reinhart trade you’re gonna have uh Yuri Kix from the reinart trade uh Isaac rosin from the rist ofan trade and um Olen is from the Jack eel trade

That’s the core that you traded out to receive that Core is coming in your prospects and picks going forward are can be used either you can inject them into the lineup like we see with Zag Benson if you think that they’re good enough or they could be they should

Be used to get you pieces that should supplement these incoming pieces that were the rebuild I think you should be building around the current core Plus what you got from those trades and then the things that come after that should be helping you complete the roster fill in those

Holes wherever they’re needed and that’s if your first if your first round pick this year can help do that it should it should be used to do that unless it’s Unless somehow we Lottery into like mcklin celebran or whatever in which case no keep him unless unless you’re

Getting a really good offer but I don’t know what uh what you’d have to give me for that to work in my mind um Conor McDavid and he’s riging Leon D idle and he’s riging for a long yeah I’m pretty sure Edmonton says no to that one but it’s a good thought I

Mean they like their first round first overall picks though Edmonton he always enjoy those true they love having those but yeah I mean I’m not it was actually Chris Baker of the Sabers prospects talking to Matthew fabr about that so okay yeah more guys that you actually know hockey pretty well

Um so that was interesting conversation and he also thinks seavo is just gonna be making Chris Baker says seavo is just gonna make the NHL next year he’s gonna bring line up with Benson and they’re just gonna bring a new speed to the offense this is another proposition for

The team okay I’m just gonna leave it us no yeah I mean do you want to have this conversation because I think it’s worthwhile these These are the guys that are the Future these are these are I said at the beginning of the year like this is what the rebuild what the new

Rebuild is these are the guy who are who’s I can’t talk these are the guys who are the future of the team yeah so I of those three guys am least high on seavoy I think that the way that seavoy plays is awesome he’s incredibly fast he slinks in the areas very well

He’s creative as a playmaker he can shoot pretty well he can finish very high paced would honestly fit great on this team that is last year the way that the Sabers played last year which everyone agreed was incredibly fun that is Matthew seavo brand of hockey if

You’ve ever seen him play he would have fit perfectly onto that roster there’s a few issues with him one is one that you don’t like it’s it’s the definitely not a tough guy not gritty he’s going to be the guy on the ice that you need to

Protect not guy who’s gonna protect you he’s a that’s not my number one thing but keep on going he’s a small guy he’s injury prone and never going to like find himself in a confrontation where he has the upper hand because that’s just not the game he plays he’s a very

Skilled guy he’s gonna as uh I believe it was Phil kessle said he’s gonna ham it up he’s gonna hot dog on you and um uh he’s gonna get wrecked in the NHL it is it is exactly what you hate about this team personified in a in a single

Player because he’s going to get destroyed time and time again and with the team that we Have No One’s Gonna stick up for him so in that regard he does not fit what the team is currently doing no he definitely needs his time in

The AHL that’s for sure um I do like his speed his speed is the biggest thing in the way that he the way that he plays to he does play in a way similar to Benson where he will get in the gritty areas um but this is why he gets injured is

That he plays that way at a frame of five foot basically I don’t know eight seven a buck 60 pounds I mean yeah um that’s why I get injured dude um so he definitely needs some SE in the AHL so to expect him to come into the NHL

Next year is kind of crazy but that was interesting to hear that from Chris Baker because they he actually still considers him the top prospect in the and you know what he’s the guy who watches all of their games he watches he watches Kulik he watches seavoy he watches um

Oland he watches the guy Finland I don’t even know what his name is he’s a fifth round pick but he’s having a solid season too he’s yeah exactly the the effort and work that Chris Baker puts into what he does is truly incredible so he knows what he’s talking about more

Than I do right at the end of the day he knows what he talks he’s talking about more than I do and I think at the junior level that Matthew seavoy is Far and Away the best of any of those players I don’t think that his game translates as

Well as uh Noah osin does as Yuri khik does although Yuri khik still has a lot of stuff he has to figure out his defensive game is poor at best best right now and if you want to transition into the NHL you can’t just be a shot

All Victor olon so don’t need any more of those yeah you’re gonna need to round out your game before you’re a real NHL but I can see him doing that he’s young it sometimes that just takes time for these guys he was never really expected

To play that way in his uh on his former team so he’ll he’ll have time to figure that out and develop that part of his game and when he comes into the league he has a mature a more mature game already than what uh seo’s kind of high octane it’s

Spazzy is like how I see it it’s fun it’s incredibly fun and when he does something it’s exhilarating but yeah a lot of the times he’s a negative defensive impact and it feels like it’s a lot of stuff you could get away with in juniors and I’m not

Sure when he gets to a better defensive League that he even have that kind of offensive spark yeah he’s a 20-year-old playing in a league that has 16y old so he should be playing the way that he is right now um like yeah it’s way easier to play his

Style of game like you mentioned in the Juniors compared to playing in the AHL so he definitely needs some season the AHL um no I mean so that was interesting to hear but the one guy that I kind of like his game and the Sabers really need

To see if they can get him over to the US he’s our 2021 second round pick proar PTA okay now he’s he’s kind of similar in his situation in the KHL where he’s playing on the best team that KHL oh well he’s similar to I believe it

Was Isaac Rosen he’s like Rosen wasn’t getting a lot of ice time in the Swedish Elite league and the Savers got pissed offu and said hey we’re bringing him over to the us we don’t care he needs to develop same thing’s kind of happening with PPO where he’s playing in the KHL

And their top I don’t know what if it’s Seri a or whatever it’s called the top league on the best team and he’s only getting like eight minutes a game um so he’s not really putting up stats but he’s been down to like their minor league team and he’s been playing pretty

Well down there but it’s not about the stats I’m talking about it’s the style of way that he plays and and it’s kind of almost like a tchuck type of player where he is not afraid to make contact he’s not afraid to run G guys and he skates pretty well

He’s pretty fast I mean he has the offense potential that he got drafted for so there’s still that he can develop in the US but he’s gonna bring that physical tenacity that this team kind of needs and kind of like that he can almost be like a rat type of player and

He’s intrigued me the most because Chris Baker had tape on him in that last um it was his last Prospect Avenue and just the way that the guy plays would kind of be it’s something that the Sabers like I’ve been pushing for all year they need

That type of player no he’s not going to get into a fight but he’s gonna be that annoying guy that’s just gonna hit you after like you you let go of the puck and all of a sudden here’s this guy charging at you on the boards like making you think twice about making

Moves with the puck or putting your head down that the Sabers don’t have right now so he’s actually the one guy I’m most excited for when it comes to prospects and trying to get the Savers over here because we have a lot of high-end skill guys we already have that

We just need that new flavor in here I think honestly that part of our Prospect pool gets overlooked a lot I think we have some of those players like we have some of those depth guys and fourth line guys that get Overlook because we have such a high-end Prospect pool we’ve got

A deep deep Prospect pool on kind of that side you got like Philip Cedar Quist who’s kind of a bigger guy um there’s another I think there’s another guy who recently ended up in the AHL but Anton Wahlberg’s a big guy as well and

He’s y you’re you hope he can kind of be like an Alex tuck type player yeah where he’s like kind of big fast and can crash into things on the four check I don’t think he plays he plays a more offensive Style game like tuck where he’s not

Necessarily going to be like the biggest um Bruiser and defensively uh sound guy but you could like that’s something you can develop into a guy if you see it right but he when he played in the World Juniors a lot of his because he played pretty well
