The San Jose Sharks just aquired the best college free agent as they got Colin Graf to sign an entry level contract with them. That and more in today’s NHL Hockey video!
Honestly, looking at his position. If you go to a contender now, there is very little chance you end up in the NHL right away, along with the fact that if you do, if will likely be a very limited role. If you go to a really weak team, you are setting yourself up for individual success and development. Less chance you end up buried in the AHL due to the main roster being filled by solidified talents, and you get a chance on a really weak team to prove yourself as a good player. Not only does it give him a shot to potentially get top 6 or at least top 9 forward experience out of the gate, if he really gets going and plays good consistently he could be looked at as a central piece in their rebuild. Sets the player up for the best possible development curve from an experience standpoint and gives him a shot to really benefit his wallet if he plays good too.
Next season could be the Sharksā final season in San Jose. On December 5, Hasso Plattner will sell the Sharks to Joe Lacob and Peter Guber for $1.92 billion. On January 9, 2025, Joe and Peter will finalize and close the sale to become the new owners of the Sharks. In the 2025-26 NHL season, after 32 seasons in San Jose, the Sharks will move to San Francisco and play their home games at Chase Center.
Quillan was awarded the best defensive forward in the conference. Graf was awarded the best overall player in the conference. From watching Graf for a couple years, heās not a bad 200 foot player but playing with Quillan and Lipkin was beneficial (these two just signed with TOR and ARI).
I would have signed with the chicago bedards just cause if I had the chance to develop into a second line forward that could have PP time with a generational player I would take it.
Smart for him to go to the sharks cause he will be plugged in right away on the top lines with more minutes other than limited minutes he'd be getting if he went to a contender or bubble team
he's gonna get more ice time if he's on a team that's not very good. i think it's a smart idea. play with the sharks until you can become a UFA at 25 and see where it goes from there.
Been watching him for a while. He's nuts. Despite him going for a lower team, I see this working out for him from an experience standpoint. More chance for ice time compared to a top level team like the Bruins or Rangers, who might bench him more often…
I got to watch him when he played for Union his freshman year and even then he had solid offensive instincts. Looking forward to seeing what he can do in the NHL.
All these casuals in the comments. Sharks are going to be a nasty team in 3-5 years. We probably have the 3rd best prospect pool not counting this upcoming draft and Graf. Also, the sharks are going to have a lot of cap freeing up in the next 3 years. So, watch out.

Welp, he just ended his hopes at a decent career. If jumbo Joe couldnāt win there, thereās zero hope in San Jose for him šš

Is it wrong of me to assume this is a play to move to Cali and get his pecker polished in a State/Province with no snow?
WTF.
Any team but the sharks.
