EDMONTON OILERS BREAKING TRADE: Adam Henrique & Sam Carrick Acquired By The Oilers

The Edmonton #oilers have acquired forwards Adam Henrique and Sam Carrick from the Anaheim #ducks. Henrique is a great add for the Oilers 3rd line center slot and allows Connor McDavid to be reunited with Nugent-Hopkins on the top-line. I give my thoughts and breakdown of the trade as the Oilers give up a first-round pick and a 5th…

  1. UPDATE: 75% salary retention on Henrique makes this more digestible and allows more cap flexibility heading into Friday's deadline

  2. I’m pretty happy with this trade. Henrique will be a good 3rd line centre for the Oilers and Carrick will be good on the 4th line.

  3. Tarasenko had a full NMC, Ottawa’s hands were tied. I like the deal for Edmonton, and there’s still room for a move or two more

  4. Good trade for both teams to be honest. I compare this to Monahan deal. Henrique is about as good as Monahan and with the salary retention the contracts are pretty similar. Think the Oilers couldve used 2 seconds to get him instead though

  5. Tarasenko was with no suitors. Full NMC. Henrique had many suitors. Monahan is the comparable. You pay full price and Henrique fits our needs much better than Tank

  6. Keep in mind our 1st pick is going to be more like a 2nd.. edit.. realized now you mentioned the 1st will not be good in 2024. I think this was a big win overall

  7. How is this not good with 75% retained on Henrique and 50% retained on Carrick ? Both kill penalties so definitely an Upgrade to Ryan and Brown

  8. On spec, with 75% retention, I like this trade for us. Also, if we go deep in the playoffs, our 1st wouldn't be very high among the 1st round anyways 🤷‍♂️

  9. Henrique (75% retained between Anaheim and Tampa Bay), Carrick (50% retained by Anaheim) and a 7th round pick to the Oilers for a 1st (to Anaheim), a conditional 5th (to Anaheim) and a conditional 4th (to Tampa Bay) for the extra 25% retention on Henrique. While both are rentals if the price is right (and the skill is there) Carrick may linger. Doubtful for Henrique allowing solely for salary.

  10. terenskeno just wanted to go to florida so there was no chance there, and who wants a player whos sole motivation is living in a sunny city? also a first round pick at #32 is a second round pick

  11. It's clear that any player in the draft next year deeper than 20th pick isn't going to be useful for 5+ years and maybe never so a first round pick isn't worth shit for a team going for the cup right now

  12. Couldn't care less about the picks, how will they slot in to the lineup? Does it move the needle? I'd be surprised if they trade for a top 6 forward

  13. Come on man! They say the 2024 draft is not deep anyway, by the time we pick its going to be crumbs, be scraping the barrel! This is a good trade, We didn't lose any players either, added depth! The time is now! Anyway, On with the shoooow! Now if KH can deliver a 2nd pairing / top 4 defenseman, then we'll be ready for a deep run.

  14. I didn't like the move much at first glance either. However, given how strapped they against the cap, I get it.

They had to overpay a little, and ya, EDM's 1st isn't exactly going to be a top-tier pick either. Not to say it won't come back to be a great pick someday, as you can see amazing picks come out of the 2nd, 4th, 7th round sometimes even.

I like the boost in playoff performance this deal brings though. It was necessary, imo. Had they not been a cap strapped team, I would certainly dislike it through bare optics.

  15. Henrique is a very strong addition. He can either play on the 2nd line RW spot with Nuge and add more offense to that line, or play 3rd line C which puts McLeod on the LW where I think he's more effective — at least offensively.

  16. The Oilers should trade a young guy like peterka for the wings…. Or Stützle as a center for the future. Middelstedt is gone to the avalanche, a strong player with future there.

  17. This is the exact trade that the oilers needed. We have a solid vetran forward in Henrique and a solid 4th line center to replace Derek Ryan. Both of these guys are being payed less than 50% (Adam is being payed only 25%). So it is justifyable for the Oilers to give up the First Rounder. Additonally we get the rights to a young prospect goalie and a 7th rounder. Not much to complain about with this big move. Should benifit the Oilers big time!
