  1. Kent Hughes knows MM extensively, this a win win trade for both teams. Sad to see RP go but I think a change in scenery and the chance to work with Sid will benefit him, fo shizzal

  2. Hextall really came into today with 9 defenseman and no cap space.

Made 2 fairly significant trades and ends the day with 9 defenseman and no cap space lol

  3. In theory they also get Rem Pitnick since the cap savings allowed them to sign him which they couldn't do because of cap restraints. That is why they didn't quality him

  4. And even if petry does bounce back, and poehling learns from the centers in Pittsburgh, I'd be happy for them. But petry is turning 35 before the end of the year and he wasn't just bad last year, he was so bad he wasn't nhl caliber and caused so many turnovers due to him not wanting to make an effort. And turned the puck away in key moments of games more than anyone else. Matheson is 6 years younger. Had his best year, petry is 34 and just had his worst season of his career. The Habs also gained more than 2.1m in cap space, also allowed the Habs to sign pitlik who had a great rookie season and couldn't be signed due to his arbitration rights being a threat to our cap structure. Hughes didn't tender an offer and he became a Ufa. Otherwise pitlik would have had us by the balls with his 25%shooting percentage. So he lost that right and resigned for 1.1 x2 as a ufa. Pretty happy they traded the bad apple of the team. Earlier in the season, he publicly criticized the coach and then he eventually got fired, goalie would get run over and he would just skate by and not do anything. The main issue and on the human side of things, his wife's mother in law is not vaccinated and there are issues going back and fourth Canada so it was mainly a family thing and the wife and kids didnt want to stay with him in montreal anymore so he demanded a trade to the states. Off he goes, no more distractions. Good luck to him and the pens but I think this is a big W for the habs

  5. Thank you for the up date! Happy to see the Canadiens get a decent player in return for Petry!
Unless the Canadiens know more about Price's return than they are saying I think the Canadiens should try and acquire one of the several free agent #1 netminders currently on the market! Jake Allen is going to need help and he is a bit injury prone. If Price is on the IR, they should have the cap space to get some help in net!
I just don't want to see another season like last year!
    mea sententia sine firmis 🦂🙏🥂

  6. from a Habs perspective I'm not thrilled about this trade. What does that leave as their top pairing? Matheson and Savard? yikes.
At the trade deadline, D-men fetch a small fortune.

  7. I like having Petry but his age worries me, oh well I guess. Pens only got 4-5 years left to do anything and they probably won’t anyway

  8. Look at that both Montreal and Pittsburgh are revamping their Defence…LEAFS TAKE NOTES!!!!! PITTS HAS WON MULTIPLE CUPS IN THE LAST DECADE!!!🤬🤬🤬

  9. I’m really sad to see Ryan go from Montreal. I really liked him in the ncaa, I think you’re going to see him excel under a new player development team

  10. The habs are getting rid of all their good defensemen so they can tank and possibly get first overall> Connor Bedard.

  11. i wanted them out since poehling and petry when to hug zach kassian after he ran over montembault instead of fucking feeding him some knuckle sandwiches

  12. Pittsburgh definetely got the better of this trade, getting Poehling as well, sad about that, but Petry will be a good fit for the Pens, despite his age, he is still a good d-man. If Montreal pairs up Edmunson, with Mathesson, should be interesting if that's the plan.

  13. Montreal needs to take a similar approach as Detroit did. Keep a couple veteran pieces around to help the kids develop, and use their cap wisely so that when they are ready, they can fill the gaps in their squad through free agency to become a contender again.

  14. I’d even say Pittsburgh lose this trade, yeah Petry had a rough start but 6 years older, unless Poehling does something and Mathesons last season was a fluke I have Pittsburgh lose this slightly

  15. I am glad Petry is gone. If you are a habs fan, you saw how poorly he played for 7.5 million salary (6 250 000 cap hit). He was horrible, he was a bad apple, you have to understand how many goals were scored against us because of him this year, every game he made huge mistakes because he didn't care. I am not wishing him well, he was a disgrace for the Montreal organization. He his not a good man or professional, yes you can bring the family situation, but when you make 7.5 million dollars, you get your ass off and dedicate yourself. This guy is not a good person. Good luck with him Penguins.

  16. Why could'nt sportsnet hire this guy to do youtube commentary? He is much better than that Leaf Fanboy Steve Dangle.

  17. Perry will blossom with Pittsburgh who has a strong offensive team but will help them more in the playoffs. Montreal got a defenseman who is a great skater and will support the backend of the offensive attacks. Montreal's game plan for the upcoming season is to ice an exciting high scoring offense with little emphasis on defense. St. Louis wants to bolster the team's confidence in knowing they can light up the twine. The Oilers did the very same thing in the early 80's and they built a 4 cup winner on the backend of the decade. Montreal wants to remain a chance as a bottom feeder in the league because the prize they seek is Bedard, a generational player. Fans are so used to Montreal's pop gun offense's over the longest time that having guys who can bury a puck or pile the points is something they would cheer for while the rebuild is on. Allen will be gone by the trade deadline and the Price issue will be solved by then as well. Montreal also cut the strings on a centre whose talents never seemed to take in Montreal, with an older team in Pittsburgh he will get his chance because of all the injuries they have every year.

  18. Basically trading Matheson & Marino for Petry, Ty Smith & Poehling. Sounds like a lateral move, unless Poehling & Smith somehow live even partly up to their draft status. The Penguins seem to have a way of getting more out of these types of guys than their old teams, so maybe it works out.

  19. If Poehling develops into a top 6 forward, this could be a win for Pitt. but the fact he didnt due much in Montreal, despite some weak competition and got passed by guys like Evans, Pitlick and possibly Pezzetta is concerning. throw in Petrys decline and age/contract- this could be a HUGE win for Montreal. I dont see how Pitt wins this without major contribution from Poehling.

  20. Hey Shannon! Thank you for all the great content. I was wondering if it would be possible for you to make a video on PLD and what would be a fair trade/contract. Thank you

  21. Mtl gets cap relief ($2.2M), which allowed them to resign Rem Pitlick. They also lose Petry's big contract that runs through age 38, and they pick up an almost-as-good dman in Matheson back. It's a W for Mtl, but Pittsburgh got Poeling, and if he turns out to be a solid 3rd line C, Pittsburgh gets a W too.

  22. Good trade for nothing else than if Petry has another down year it will be impossible to trade his contract without retaining salary. This needed to be done for that reason alone with the amount of term risk he carried

  23. Matheson's a stud. Great goal-scoring D the Habs need rn. I remember Bergevin eyeing him a few years back.

  24. HG, you are one of the most credible source there is out there. No one can compete agains Passion. You have a way to analyze things and bring up an interesting angle. Simple, clear & concise.
    Cheers.
