I’d be happy if the award isn’t just a “It’s Bergeron/Barkov’s award unless they are hurt or retired” award
but but but r/hockey tells me only the Toronto media thinks he should be nominated
It’s ridiculous that PKing seems to be a requirement for the Selke. Does anyone actually think Matthews wouldn’t be elite if he was required to PK regularly.
Matthews is an artist at taking the puck from the opposition player, something that I have never seen acknowledged.
An A+ offence and B+ defence is more impressive than B+ offence and A+ defence, imho.
These awards that the media votes on, always narrative or name driven. Theyll just keep nominating same dudes. Of course Matthews should be a selke nominee. Takeaways, blocks and most defensive metrics hes near top, while against best competition and scoring 65. If he wore any other jersey hed be a finalist forsure
How is this man gonna run away with the Rocket, potentially be nominated for the Selke, and not be nominated for the Hart??
He’s 1st in goals.
6th in points.
6th in plus minus behind only one other forward (Zach Hyman) and tied with McDavid.
4th in Takeaways.
Maybe not win the Selke but definitely should be in the conversation.
I’m sure Matty appreciates it Nico
