They weren’t expected to be a playoff team this season, but were above the line for most of the year until recently.

  1. Honestly I was encouraged up until the trade deadline , but this losing streak just takes all of us fans back to the Fletcher era… and gets us discouraged 😢

  2. Wonderful Flyers revitalized as an NHL iconic presence. Fighting comes in lots of different contexts. Better times came this season. ✅

  3. To Boston; Coutourier, Hart and a 1st rounder
To Philly; Ullmark, Coyle and a 4th or 5th

Boston gets that upgrade at center they need and Philly gets a GOALIE.

  4. – Losing Walker killed our transition game worse than we thought
    – Errson ran out of gas and lost his swagger
    – Captain situation took the air out of the room
    – Blue line injuries ruined the penalty kill and put more pressure on Errson
    – Torts too tough and calling everyone soft at the end of the season killed motivation
    – Power play complete disaster all year finally caught up to us

+ Lot of growth from Frost, Forester, Tippett
+ Sanheim and York stood up and are a quality defensive pair
+ Coots despite being overplayed got over his injury
+ TK ties season high goals scored
+ Getting first rounder for Walker

  5. As a Flyers fan I don’t know how I feel about the season. On one hand we held a playoff spot for what, 140 days? That’s fantastic for a rebuilding team. On the other hand it’s never easy to watch the wheels fall off the bus in real time.

Honestly I just think this team is gassed. Between Tort’s style of hockey and the amount of young players who just weren’t ready for a whole 82 game season it’s a wonder it took them this long to fall off.

I am optimistic for the Flyers. I agree with what Danny and Torts are doing. They proved it works this year, now it’s just a matter of finding and/or growing the talent to succeed.

  6. I am not upset that they squandered a playoff spot. I am upset that they kicked the can down the road another year. This team has some promising young players that can be built around, but not anyone that can be a #1 option on a contending team. They need more talent. Unfortunately it is hard to get talent when you don't draft high and are not good enough to be a desired trade/free agent destination for star players. Same story it's always been with the Flyers. I get the logic from a business perspective, but in my opinion it's insulting to the fans to assume they want a first or second round playoff exit and not a cup

  7. In the end, they just get a better draft pick. 5 firsts and 5 seconds in the next 3 drafts

  8. Long term, I think that Fedotov will turn out to be both a very good pick-up and a very good player for Philly (and I say this as a Red Wings fan).

As Shannon mentions here, it's a hell of an adjustment to make, when you have to travel across to the USA, from an entirely different country and hockey culture (with all the language barrier, lifestyle, etc, changes that such a switch entails), and then find yourself thrust straight into the NHL playoffs race cauldron, without any type of AHL easing-in period beforehand.

Hopefully, the Flyers will give this young guy an extension and another full season or so to see what he can really do in a more settled, less intense situation than Philly has been in recent weeks.

Really hope that Fedotov does succeed in the end, as I think that he has shown tantalizing flashes of the BIG potential that he undoubtedly has, on occasions, since his arrival in North America. Good luck to him in his future efforts.

  9. The flyers were left in horrendous shape thanks to the trio of incompetent GMs. But chuckles was by far the worst and left the team in an almost impossible situation. Torts had them playing well above their heads all season. The only unfortunate thing is they are drafting 11 vs top five. They likely will be in the same boat for the next season or two. Hopefully Briere can raise the Titanic but the situation is not good

  10. As a flyers fan, right now this is really frustrating and hard to watch, but I kinda have to remind myself that we wouldn't even be in a position to be this frustrated and angry if they hadn't had a good season prior. I also think a lot of important guys took big steps this year, and that we're learning a lot about the rebuild that the Flyers are doing right now. I think in a couple weeks Flyers fans will be more rational and see the bright side of this season, but right now most people are just frustrated and angry.

  11. the Flyers don't have another gear to find in the last quarter of the season. Other teams know that this is when you should be your best and the Flyers picked the first half of the season to be their best.

  12. 2 words to explain the flyers debacle: the coach. I can't believe this guy can still find a head coaching job at higher level then peewee. Blows my mind!!!

  13. Not as much of a collapse more of a team running out of gas. They over achieved with a bunch of spare parts and rookies. Not to mention our starting goalie being forced to leave the team. Torts needs to be given a chance to see this whole rebuild through. I was at the win vs Boston before this losing streak started and we’ve seen what they are capable of. Hopefully they can build on next year. I was also at the loss to Chicago. They hit 5 posts.

  14. Ah yes, team who lost their goalie to alleged SA and the President's son who threw a girls wheelchair down a flight of stairs. Good enough to fuck yourself out of the lottery. Bad enough not to make the playoffs. Torts scared the team. It's going to be with them for years as this was the point, they should have rebuilt traded and got back into the lottery. Although, when your drafts don't even want to meet with you and demand to be traded…

  15. As a flyer fan we were encouraged early by the results we were getting from a majority of the young players. Now after the collapse it’s hard to know what we actually have to bring into the future

  16. I'm excited about the flyer's future and I want say this collapse pisses me off, but we were supposed to be a 26th ish place team back in October. We just REALLY overachieved and honestly a lot of the teams near us were struggling for most of the season. We capitalized on their struggles but unfortunately now we're struggling. I'll keep hoping as long as we're mathematically alive.

  17. This team overachieved all year. When the games actually meant something they folded like origami. (Took that from another podcast) What worries me the most is that no one is playing well which shows me how low of a talent pool we actually have. This team needs a legitimate star to lead them. Someone who sticks out no matter how bad they are. Hopefully that Russian kid is the answer but who knows if he ever plays for them.

  18. I doubt they will get rid of frost, most likely Farabee , Risto, staal and Atkinson on the chopping block

  19. It’s discouraging in the short term knowing they most likely wont win these last 3 games and miss the playoffs, but in the long term with our drafting the future seems bright

  20. You should do a video on the Leafs' collapse when they go out in round one since so many people keep hyping them up. MoneyPuck has them as the 2nd highest chance to win.

  21. The fact of the matter is, the recent 10 games are what we all expected to see this season. Torts got way more out of this team than they have talent on the ice. They won most games with solid goaltending and a full 60 minute effort. Both of those are gone at this point, whether it's fatigue, losing belief etc. Doesn't matter, end result is the same. It's a 4 line team of grinders without enough gamebreakers, shaky at times defense, and a rookie goalie that got burned out with no serviceable backup. Really all there is to it

  22. Can’t work this hard all season long; run a rookie goaltender into the ground and expect to have any gas left in the tank for a stretch run let alone a round or two in the playoffs. That said this team exceeded my expectations this year. If they miss the playoffs; which seems increasingly likely; I will be disappointed, but I won’t be mad. This was supposed to be a lottery pick team last summer.
