  1. Couturier has been weak defensively, now he's weak offensively. To make someone like him a captain is kind of laughable. Flyers have a young team and Couturier is in his thirties…no sense.

  2. Unbelievable how clueless you are…Couturier has been awful most of the year…and how soft people are today who question scratching a captain who's been playing terrible…Couturier was a terrible choice for captain anyway…and I suspect that came more from up top than it being Tort's idea alone(more of a group decision)…it's like the mediocrity of Giroux all over again…enough of the "quiet lead by example" typesšŸ¤¦…the only quiet lead by example type I can tolerate is a dude who puts up 120 points…otherwise your captain better be an "alpha" that's willing to throw chairs, punch walls, and call out teammates(and themselves) when they are sucking…and a good captain wouldn't need the coach to scratch him when he's playing awful…I want a captain who will take initiative and scratch himself…that's what a real captain would do…the scratching of Couturier by Torts was totally warranted…there are 6 other players that need to be scratched as well, but unfortunately you need to have enough skaters to play the game…and forget the fact that couturier has like 1 goal in the last 27 games…it's his defense and decision making that got him scratched…because Torts has demonstrated he can live with offensive struggles and allows players to work through them…but he will not tolerate being a repeat offender when it comes to away from the puck principles…noone is above the team…Torts has said it numerous times…he's always been honest about it…he doesn't care where you're drafted, how much you make, your status, young or old…everyone can be benched…he's been transparent about it…and yet the number of people online and in the comments whining about it is disgusting…typical participation trophy generation mentality…Torts is such a breath of fresh air…and will go down as one of the greatest coaching hires in Flyers history…what he's done with this pile of slop over the last year and a half could be considered miraculous…their top scorer has a measly 58 points in 65 games, and they're currently sitting in a playoff spot…almost unheard of…Torts doesn't even need to produce a stanley cup for his legacy to be cemented…I don't want a coach or players that want to win…I want a coach and players that hate losing with a passion…there is a difference

  3. Iā€™m a Couturier supporter and think that he was a good choice to be named captain. That being said his performance has definitely slipped as the season progressed. Itā€™s not surprising since he did was out almost 2 years so itā€™s not surprising that he needs a break. The only thing I would have hoped was that there would have been a 1 :1 conversion prior the healthy scratch. This also sends a message to the team no one is exempt from being scratched and your performance is what matters above all else. Iā€™m betting Couturier bounces back at least defensively with some time off.
This doesnā€™t effect Seanā€™s overall standing with the team and in fact could even strengthen it with him handling this in a professional manner as an example to the rest of the team!
Itā€™s a short term setback, the team will need him down the stretch and hopefully in actual playoff games in April!
