  1. He’ll stay as long as he doesn’t want what he’s not worth. It’s not like JBB has changed his narrative since training camp, The Athletic just wants clicks.

  2. It was never about not wanting Killer to stay. He was simply too expensive. If Stammer wants 8m he may face the same fate

  3. Dracarys_TheCannons

Stammer recently mentioned how it was a great message of belief in the team from the front office to go and get Duclair and Dumba.

Not on the topic of his contract, but I don’t think he’d go out of his way to say that if he was that pissed off. Killorn may be projecting a bit here.

I believe Vinik and JBB will find a way to keep him for the rest of his career and beyond. I believe he will eventually be a Special Advisor or whatever to be compensated for anything he gives up now.

But Killorn is right, Stamkos could go for more money. Since 50+% of his income doesn’t have state or local taxes playing for TB, that is an advantage over everyone except Dallas, Nashville and the stinking Panthers….

Dudes about to have forty goals but he’s also 34. I think 4 years $27 mil would be more than fair. Throw in an ownership stake after he retires too!

  6. Blade_of_3

Killer is right but it’s basically stating the obvious. Stamkos will probably be offered about the same or a little more than Killer and that would be a much better contract for the Bolts.

It’s a solid article but also a bummer to read bc it made me thinking about Stammer leaving.

I really fucking hope JBB works some magic and keeps Stamkos here. I’ll be a very sad and angry human if he has to wear another sweater. It just would be so wrong. Like Crosby or Ovi in another jersey.

Who cares what Alex “I will retire before I play for another team, wait how much are they offering me” Killorn has to say. I bet he has some seller err buyers remorse. That isn’t a good team and isn’t going to be good the length of his contract.

  9. Should be an interesting summer. Could see JBB making some deals to create cap space to keep Stamkos and Duclair.

Hedman is going nowhere, but could see the one of the other 2 Dmen who make $$$ getting moved. Sheary will likely will be gone one way or another.

  10. All of JBBs actions have sent messages to the team. Most recently, Duclair and Dumba, telling the team: We’re going for it. I refuse to believe that JBB would want to send the message to both the team and fans that he’s willing to let a guy who should have a statue in front of Amalie walk by haggling over a few bucks one way or the other. 40 goals (likely), number-one power-play, skating at just about “Seen Stamkos” speeds, and I’m sure a post-retirement, lucrative front-office contract waiting for him to keep Carter in electric Zambonis through college. Bolt for life. Commission the statue already.

This quote was taken way out of context to get clicks and engagement. The full quote:

    >“I think if he could choose, he would stay,” Killorn said.

    >But he then added: “Everyone has a certain amount of pride. He’s going to be a Hall of Famer. At a certain point, if they don’t want you, he won’t want to stay.”

You can interpret that as you want, but to me that sounds a lot more like someone who believes Stamkos will stay but wants his friend to be treated with respect than anything else.

The whole article has no new information. He wants to stay, the team wants him to stay, they haven’t negotiated yet, and the team wants to stay competitive. This isn’t breaking news.

  12. SwagFondue

Shocking turn of events, the negotiations that JBB said would happen in the off-season still appear to be happening in the off-season.

  13. PaulRyansWifesSon

    >if they don’t want you

JBB has said the exact opposite, Harvard boy. This contract “dispute” has never been as big of a deal as the media has made it out to be.

  14. RiseOfTheCanes

All this talk is just a waste of breath. Stammer will retire a Bolt. Everyone involved knows that. It’s a complicated cap situation. Relax. It gets done. 100%.

  15. Fastlane19

Tampa is slowly rebuilding and will not pay Stammer what he wants, expect to see him in another jersey; remember he almost left on the last contract.

  16. chandogrogo

Fans turning on killer for a cherry-picked quote. Guy won two cups and Anaheim gave him the bag that Tampa couldn’t. It’s about setting your family up for the best possible scenario while he still can. At the end of the day, he’s still a winner

  17. PollutionBackground9

Personal opinion: he will be resigned but this non signing tactic from JBB is also a strategy (of course) to sort of say step it up with a team that isn’t as good as the Stanley Cup run teams from previous years. As of right now, Stammer had stepped up.

  18. Gwendolyn1994

Here’s my little opinion. Sergachev was not worth 9million…. maybe 7million but definitely not Not 9 million. He’s a bit of a turnover machine. And unfortunately he’s injured for another month are 2. I feel like that money should’ve went to stammer. Tampa has proven they could still play good hockey without him. 🙁 I feel like this was a mistake.
