What’s Happening With The Coyotes? 32 Thoughts NHL Podcast

  1. But what did players expect?
5000 seat is not NHL standard
Even more so in a fast growing city
That owners will take the first flight out is not a surprise

  2. If Utah gets it's team, leaving an Arizona expansion with a 5 year window, it would be interesting if the NHL allowed a Quebec franchise at the same time to keep the conferences even in terms of teams.

  3. As a diehard Yotes fan it is crazy how much we don't know and my initial reaction based on what I have heard. Alex Murelo is a garbage owner and person if he does sell the team. IF the auction in Scottsdale doesn't work then I would be okay if they moved. Scottsdale would be the LAST effort

  4. looking at Yotes on capfriendly. They don't have a single Dman under contract next year. I thought Carolina was effed.

  5. The NHL is a gate driven league. Did anyone believe the NHL would ever let them play in a 5000 seat arena for 3 years. It was just a stop gap because the Yotes were painted in a corner. They don't even own a piece of dirt to put the arena on yet. This saga has been going on for years and years and years. I feel for the Yotes' fan base but good riddance Alex Meruelo.

  6. Executives from coyotes didn’t communicate with anyone. I live in PHX and betrayed is a good word to describe how people feel about Muerelo. Tempe woulda been great but not to be I guess

  7. Arizona as a hockey market is completely worthless. The team is only worth something because it is being moved.
How many owners have given up on the Coyotes?? Let's review the long list. ALL OF THEM.
Let's keep in mind the team fell into bankruptcy and it took $50M from the City of Glendale and a healthy injection from the NHL to keep them going in Arizona.
It's dead … it's done .. It's finished .. It's over … NEVER TO SEE THE LIGHT OF DAY AGAIN. End of an error.

  8. While I feel bad for the coyote fans and the families involved on the business side, I'm over it. Move already!!! How many chances does Arizona get?

  9. You’ll know how serious Meurelo is about getting the team back in June if he wins that bid or not. Plus im assuming the “window” has started so theres no time to mess around. Would suck to spend a billion on this arena and then the window closes cause he couldn’t get this done in time. I also wonder if the window closes and he cant get it done, what happens to all the naming rights and patents for the coyotes. Are they free for anyone to take?

  10. I’ll tell you that as someone who has stood by this team for over a decade through all bullshit. Someone who has spent countless dollars on tickets, jerseys, concessions, and merchandise, I am furious, and they are cowards.

  11. Hmmm, Mr Friedman, interesting calling people names without knowing circumstances? Even if land is won at auction, what's timeline for building codes? Well, with a brief lookup/search, I found that Phoenix contractors lose 4 hours of building time to Las Vegas building contractors. That's 1/6 of the total day towards building a building. Very interesting. Imagine if Friedman's house was going to get built and he had to live in a rental until land was purchased and then building was built, but he might have to live in rental for extra years, the volume of years is the unknown?? So what if you win an Auction…. you're still inside that small arena for how many more years??

  12. Feels a lot like "too little too late." The coyotes owners had years to work out another option besides Tempe and haven't managed it. Sad day for hockey as I've had a soft spot for them since the late 90s when I first played them in EAs career mode. Great logo, great uniforms, and great fans.

  13. Suspended franchises have happened before in the NHL. The NY Americans franchise was suspended and was supposed to come back after the war, but the Rangers stopped that. I believe the Ottawa/St. Louis Eagles franchise was also suspended for a couple of years before it was finally terminated. Also, I would argue that it was Bryan Trottier who made #19 "iconic". Yzerman wore 19 because of Trottier, Sakic wore 19 because of Yzerman, and so on and so on.

  14. If having to pick up and move on short notice is a problem maybe professional hockey player is not a good profession for them, I am sure they will have no problem making a million bucks in another line of work quite easily lol

  15. Man that’s a long podcast to basically say, “AZ owners suck and NHL leadership truly is the joke we know they were to let it get to this point”. Sure, they aren’t selling teams to straight up con men anymore but good god. Only other league this much of a joke is the MLB.

  16. I can't really say I feel bad for Yotes fans. Bettman moved the old Jets b/c he saw dollar signs in Arizona, without really considering if the desert could sustain a hockey franchise long term. The Yotes should have moved 20 years ago, they should have moved in 2010 when the NHL literally bought the team to keep it alive. The Team should have sold after the 2012 playoffs when it's evaluation was at its highest. Good for those fans who stuck to the team, but if you join a sinking ship, you don't get to play victim when the team folds/moves.

  17. 25 plus years , 7 owner groups, several bankruptcies and so on….by comparison the WNBA has been a Masters' Class in profitable Business Administration, wave bye bye everyone.

  18. Knew Hanafin was gonna sign as soon as he got traded because of Eichel. Spitting Chiclets did their sandbagger golf thing with Eichel, and who is his best bud he called up to play as his partner out of everyone in the area he knows and played with growing up? Noah Hanafin. Hurts as a Bruins fan, but at least know they never really had a shot anyway with Tampa being the only other option.
