ok so imagine if we get to keep domi – and somehow we swing something where we keep Bertuzzi. What does that do to Marners contract negotiation next year?
It really does. A second line of willy John Mitch and 3rd of knies Holmberg McMann is a very good three lines. The third line being outplayed? Swap Willy with one of the wingers. Still being outplayed? Swap the centers. I love it.
Now do the power play
Having that diversity in the line up will be a huge benefit. Plus if things look bad throw Marner back up with Matthews for a few shifts. I think teams in some ways have gotten used to defending 34 and 16 together but having that option coming at you when you’re not expecting it is different ball game.
In B4 Leafs are trailing early in game 1 and Sheldon reunites Matthews and Marner by the second period
We as a fanbase have been wanting a more balanced lineup and it looks like this year we finally got it
Domi-Matthews-Bertuzzi is not a lineup I ever would have expected when the season began. I thought Domi and Bertuzzi would be second- or third-line grit and nothing more. That line has turned into an absolutely explosive line and the guys are having SO MUCH FUN out there.
I also love seeing Marner with Tavares and Nylander. Those guys play really well together.
But I’ve started noticing that when Nylander gets into a points slump, he gets selfish and makes some foolish decisions as he tries to “go it alone” instead of playing more like a part of a team. That’s one of his less positive traits.
The other night, he literally swooped in and stole the puck from in front of Brodie inside the offensive zone blue line, just as he was winding up to take a shot, and then proceeded to turn the puck over to the Devils.
I’m glad that he recognizes the chemistry between Domi, Matty and Bert. It’s up there with marleau-Kadri-Marner or Mac in the USSR in terms of synergy
