The Last Howl?

It almost felt like it would never end. The long struggle of the Arizona Coyotes is over. They will be moving to Salt Lake City at the end of the year. It felt inevitable the moment the Tempe proposal died, yet it still feels like a waste. So many years and millions of dollars thrown at a completely unstable franchise that had become as toxic as the landfill the Coyotes wanted to replace. As Utah will now be the home of this franchise, it’s a defeat for Gary Bettman and his insistence that a team be in Phoenix… or is it?

This situation is much more complicated than it should be. It will not die. It’s just the modern answer to the Cleveland Browns.

  1. As a fan of both Cleveland and Arizona markets, if I had a dollar for every time a team said they would stay only to leave the city but keep the naming rights there so that an inferior expansion team could return in the future, I would have $2.

Thats not a lot, but its really weird it happened twice.

  2. 3:58 That sentence is pretty funny considering Ted Williams' corspe is located 5 miles north of the proposed hockey arena

I hope an NHL team comes back to the desert even though it seems like Alex Meruelo is the only person who can bring it back. Phoenix is a hockey city; its just that the owners make it hard to support the team.

  3. If they were to expand to 4 new cities, then I would go for Quebec City, Arizona, Houston, and Atlanta.

  4. I'm not a big hockey fan by any sense, but I look as this as a positive for baseball because expansion is coming in MLB, and I would like the 2nd team to be in Salt Lake City (1st expansion I would bet the house on it being Nashville)

  5. Yotes fans are some of the most loyal in all of sports. Get back to Arizona in a few years, but with a new ownership group Meruelo is a toxic turd

  6. If they do rename can we all please rally for the return of the poopsocks from when seattle was looking for a name?

  7. Players are going to be asking for trades. If they get the 1st round pick I'd play a Gauthier move

  8. A bunch of college idiots who did 0 research and just voted no because “fuck the rich” and John Chayka spending infinite amounts of money just to fuck off in the middle of COVID is what screwed Arizona. The fans were there, the idiots who shot Tempe down were all a bunch of naive immature college brats who think activism is a form of business.
Truly sad for the fanbase of Arizona, hopefully an expansion team comes to town, fuck ASU.

  9. As a utahn I'm beyond excited to finally have NHL hockey here. Even though the jazz have never won a championship the dedication they get from their fans is unmatched. So even if this team doesn't do the best there will be people that love this team! Plus the hockey market here has been growing so fast over the past few years so I can only imagine how much bigger and better it will be once the team is here!

  10. The NHL finally has finally abandoned the idea that the dead horse they brought to the desert will spring into a utopia

  11. As an Albertan-Utahn team I am so excited for what should be called the Utah Raptors, but I am similarity guilty and sad. I loved the Yotes and wanted to believe, but no matter which owner they had it was mismanagement at every turn. I feel bad for their tired fans who finally have a really exciting roster only for it to leave them. Kinda been going through the emotions. I hope they get a team soon, with good management, which again hasn’t been the case even when they were in Winnipeg in the ‘90s.

  12. Yeah, all you gotta do is renovate Delta and you're good to go. WAY less cost than a whole new arena. Ultimately a smarter business move.

  13. being a sunbelt team in the modern NHL and continuing to suck is like being a samoan in WWE and not getting a push.

and no, phoenix does not deserve a second chance. if you're going to expand (and you shouldn't), give quebec their fucking team back already.

  14. It was not Meruelo, it was Xavier Gutierrez who was the one running the team Meruelo found out he was incompetant at paying bills.

  15. I honestly don't believe a hockey franchise can work in Atlanta. There just isn't a person or group I'd trust to be patient enough with a franchise to work there.

  16. Much like Kansas City, taxpayers are tired of paying for billionaires stadiums. That's why they're moving.

  17. The amazing thing to me is a new Coyotes team could be the third new western expansion team since the 2012-13 realignments. And no teams have moved conferences since then…

That means from the realignment until the Knights came in for the 2017-18 season, there were 16 teams in the east, 14 teams in the west. Does anyone else see what I'm seeing? 😂

  18. I see you with the Ace Combat 4 music, Tree!

It sucks when franchises move, regardless of the reason (though, as we've seen with teams like the A's and Chargers in recent years, it's usually petty BS). Phoenix deserves better. And honestly, would that area support an expansion team when their home team left?

Team owners throughout sports forgetting about the loyal fanbases, or straight up not giving a shit, should not be overlooked. This trend of it only being about the money needs to end, stat.

  19. You should make a Legacy of Failure featuring the Phoenix/Arizona Coyotes/Old Winnipeg Jets as a introduction video to Utah
