Geez, Baker is a crappy writer. The whole thing reads like an opinion column, not a news article, and the ROOT thing is just sort of slipped in there as a side remark.

    Eff Geoff Baker.

I know that there’s no game tonight, and there’s really not much else to report. I still am just tired of him and his damn clickbait articles

  3. Root has been an unbelievable disaster and has absolutely been the reason I watched considerably less hockey this year than any other

FUBO is something like $90/month for the cheapest package, a standalone app at a fair price would be super nice to have.

  5. StartUnder

Yes please! I’d gladly 20ish / mo for just kraken but root via fubo is insane.

  6. GeerAdrift

If this were true, would we lose our incredible broadcast team?!

He’s such an idiot. This guy talking about emptying seats. Was at paint the ice where they had all the open seats labeled for people who wanted to buy/move. Pickings were slim. Time to crawl back into your troll hole old man Baker. This clown knows less about the Kraken than your average poster here.

Edit: love the downvotes on facts

There are so many factual errors in this article, it is difficult to believe any of it. In particular, blaming the coach for trading away players, ignoring the fact that their contracts expired and these matters are handled by the GM. Also, the poorly phrased paragraph about Sprong implies he went on to have a better year with the Red Wings, when in fact he scored fewer goals and they severely cut his ice time due to defensive mistakes.

That said, I would like to see the Kraken move on from Root, but I don’t know what that would look like.

Good, Root is fucking trash. They’re making it harder to watch the fucking games. Fuck em

Just chiming in to say I’m glad this is still being talked about. It shouldn’t be this hard and/or expensive to watch the home team.

This is the part of the article related to Root –

    >No, I’m not talking about what was likely the last ROOT Sports broadcast of a Kraken game Tuesday night and whether play-by-play man John Forslund will leave for the Boston Bruins. The retirement of Bruins’ broadcaster Jack Edwards on Tuesday and the open Boston spot has created speculation Forslund could leave.

    >Especially with the team widely expected to part ways with ROOT and form its own in-house broadcasts over the “free” TV airwaves next season either solo or with a local station partner. Details could be finalized in coming weeks and that’s when we’ll hear more.

Is it just me, or is this totally new information? I remember reading that the Kraken and Root originally signed a 5 year contract and this is the first I’ve heard about them leaving Root. Did I miss some reporting earlier in the year? I’ve not heard anything that this was “widely expected” unless Baker is talking about something the media/press folks knew about but us fans didn’t.

But I actually wrote a detailed post last summer about how the Kraken could move to a free-over-the-air + streaming model just like the Golden Knights have now – https://www.reddit.com/r/SeattleKraken/comments/139ue0x/heres_how_the_kraken_could_follow_the_golden/
