[Stein] Fitz on Seamus Casey turning pro: “If I was a betting man, I would say he’s probably leaning towards turning pro. We talked right before the National championship (…) to me, when you forfeit the rest of your college career, you need to be more than two feet in the water.”

Very excited for him to join the team. Definitely our best prospect

This team is going to be stocked of too many offensive minded defenders

The key is if there is a spot for him. He’ll probably decide later in the summer after your free agency slows down.

There is no harm in him developing another year at Michigan.

Not sure he needs another year of college, but I would love to see him get a year of AHL…

I also think that NCAA guys could benefit from playing a year in Europe against men. This is a career path you don’t often see because too many of them want to skeeve the system with their snake oil salesmen agents whispering in their ears that they should transition from NCAA to NHL right at the end of years to shorten their ELCs and then go for personal accomplishments after that til they make their 6 million paycheck…

What happens is that these guys struggle in their first two years of NHL, end up being liabilities to their respective teams more often than not (occasionally you have a Cale Makar who decides to dopplegang Nate MacKinnon), and by year 3 in the NHL, you have a guy who now how has appropriate NHL maturity.

It’s fine if the team isn’t competitive… they can tolerate the mistakes… but NJ suffered a Luke Hughes/Simon Nemec rookie season, and I wouldn’t really be a fan of them suffering a Seamus Casey rookie season next year. I also don’t think another year of NCAA will do a whole lot for him.

He’s not gonna be in the NHL next year on this team. Likely needs a year or two in Utica.
