Vancouver Canucks: Olli Juolevi out for remainder of season after having knee surgery

Surprising news today as we learned that defenceman Olli Juolevi will miss the remainder of the season as he recovers from knee surgery.

Press release from the Canucks:

“The Vancouver Canucks announced today that Olli Juolevi has undergone successful knee surgery and is expected to make a full recovery for training camp.

After thorough evaluation, rest and conservative treatment, surgery was determined by Canucks medical staff, in consultation with specialists, as the best option for Juolevi’s long-term health and career.

The surgery was successfully performed today with an estimated return to play timeline of six months.”

  1. u know what, that's unlucky, I still think our d core is gonna be great, especially if Nikita Tryamkin returns in 2020, our left side will be great by then, Hughes, Tryamkin, and Juolevi.

  2. I didn't realize he had such a serious injury. I guess I haven't been following his status too closely. This is shitty for his development

  3. That’s a bummer. Hope he’ll bounce back and have a good year. Playing D with weak knees…
I remember Pavel Bure injury… Done, Gonezo

  4. Bobby Orr was never the same after knee surgery. The Blackhawks took a chance on a successful surgery so maybe they will with Olli….just a history compare! Means nothing!

  5. I heard Olli Juolevi likely tent to be a bust . Canuck will sign Edler because of Olli Juolevi's out, hopfully one yr deal, next yr left side D better looks like Huges, Edler, Tryamkin, right hand D, Tanev, Guddy, Stecher (or woo)

  6. Skating like the wind was not really his calling card anyway, it just means he has to focus on the mental things that make a good 2-way d-man, like positioning, quick decision-making vs the forecheck, and playing the gaps with a good stick….Lidstrom was never the best skater, but he succeeded with is IQ and his skill, which Juolevi hasn't lost…he's still on track to be the next Hampus Lindholm though
