– “Torts is fantastic to work with. … He’s very open to suggestions.” Danny Briere on John Tortorella [Hall](https://twitter.com/JHallNBCS/status/1781355786116944304)
– Briere: “I still am not quite there as far as saying that we’re a contender. I don’t believe we’re at the point where it’s time to let some young assets go to try to get better, quicker. We’re not there yet.” [O’Connor](https://twitter.com/charlieo_conn/status/1781361938519236928)
– Briere: “We have to be careful. I know, the expectation next year will be that, ‘Oh, we’ve got to get in the playoffs.’ I don’t even know that we’re there yet.
It was a great year. But there’s still a long ways to go.” [O’Connor](https://twitter.com/charlieo_conn/status/1781362111911764312)

– Briere on Atkinson’s future in Philly: “It’s a little too early on Cam. We want to take time to go back.”
“I need a little bit more time to sit down with the rest of our staff to analyze a little deeper with that.” [O’Connor](https://twitter.com/charlieo_conn/status/1781369242736001488)
– “In Ryan Johansen’s case, all I can tell you is I don’t expect him to be back. We’re dealing on the medical side with him. I think the No. 1 thing for him is to get him back to being able to play at this time. He doesn’t think he can play hockey.” [O’Connor](https://twitter.com/charlieo_conn/status/1781369758996156897)
– “So I wish I had a better answer for you. But we need to get him better, to figure out if there’s even a remote chance of him dressing for the organization at whatever level.” [O’Connor]( https://twitter.com/charlieo_conn/status/1781369817624101293)
– Briere on Ristolainen: “Unfortunately, with Risto, he went through the rehab process, we got him on the ice, we thought he was going in the right direction, and then a few days into getting on the ice and having to get into confrontation, he realized that he just couldn’t do it.” [O’Connor](https://twitter.com/charlieo_conn/status/1781372264736252146)
– Briere said he thinks there’s another level for Farabee that he can get to next season. Strong 1st half.
Thought Frost showed a lot of maturity when he was sat (including final 30 mins of final game). Thought he took big strides in 2nd half, despite rough final 10 games. [Meltzer](https://twitter.com/billmeltzer/status/1781373389141094454)
– Briere on Michkov: Look, if there’s an opportunity, we would jump on it to get him here quicker. But as far as I know, atm, it’s still the same timeline. He has 2 years left on his deal. He would have to find a way out of his deal b4 we can do anything. That’s out of our control. [O’Connor](https://twitter.com/charlieo_conn/status/1781376776662340021)
– Briere was asked which prospects might be early favorites to make the team next year out of camp.
He noted Attard, Ginning, and Andrae right off the bat. Said that the d-men are closer than the forwards. Thinks Tuomaala probably needs another year of AHL time. [O’Connor](https://twitter.com/charlieo_conn/status/1781378840897679688)

Good to see Danny giving actual answers.
Great answers. I think we really undervalued Foerster, York, Sanheim, and, to a degree, Ersson’s development this year. Aside from the whole team being exhausted and hanging him out to dry for the last 6 weeks of the season, Ersson played above what I expected him to considering the circumstances surrounding goaltending.
Foerster is the first player since Bobrovsky that I actively want to buy a jersey and wear to support. There’s times when that dude looked like an absolute stud on the ice.
Sanheim played like every game was a fuck you to his haters.
*Danny Briere said, as far as he knows, timeline is still same on Matvei Michkov. The prospect has two more years left on his KHL deal.*
Maybe I’m overly optimistic and looking for some excitement, but “as far as he knows” seems to be doing a bit of legwork here. This is from the same GM who said he didn’t know why Gauthier was skipping camp and the same GM who was sneakily working behind the scenes on Fedotov.
I’m staring to get tired of hearing the same q/a about michkov every press conference. I know they *HAVE* to ask but still.
Good answers
Hopefully Drysdale not being 100% played a big role in his struggles and we will see a much better version next yr

This makes me think they are leaning towards extending TK rather than trading. Due to the team/players’ play this year he seems to be talking about the timeline being potentially quicker than he initially thought.
5 years away from being 5 years away
That Johansen comment is interesting. He was in the lineup for the AVs up until he was traded.
Actions are more important than words, but I would like the team to sell on TK and Laughton if they have no plan on getting some upgrades vis trades.
It’s been like 3 seasons of “evaluating what we have in the young players”. If next season is about Tippett/Farabee/Frost/ being able to score 10 more points, I’ll be disappointed by the lack of activity.
So RyJo gets to retire a Flyer as well? Yeehaw! 🤣
Edit: How many other ailing Ryans are out there? Like, can we manage a full 5 skaters and a goaltender named Ryan who will never play?

this part scares me a bit. heading into the season, everyone was on team rebuild. no more half-assed attempts at a quick fix. we had a lot of different parts all coming together in a couple years. plenty of time to put it all together.
i dont want 1 overachieving season to throw us back into the quick-fix era
Flyers timeline should still be black and white, Danny. Please don’t be another GM who half-asses (or was forced to half-ass) a rebuild.
