Leafs’ Defenseman Morgan Rielly Ejected for Cross-Checking Sens’ Grieg, Awaits Player Safety Hearing

February 10, 2024: Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Morgan Rielly took offense to an empty net goal scored by Ottawa Senators forward Ridly Grieg. Instead of gently sliding the puck into the vacated net, Grieg opted to wind up for a slap shot to secure the win.

The Leafs defenseman, terribly offended by this, delivered a cross-check to Grieg’s face.  Referees Eric Furlatt and Beau Halkidis issued Rielly a mjor penalty for cross checking, along with a game misconduct.

Now Rielly awaits a hearing with the NHL’s Department of Player Safety.

  1. Stay classy leafs. Friiggin children.
And the league will fine him 6 dollars to teach him how much they care about player safety.

  2. Man, I am a die hard hockey fan. That’s beyond head hunting. Not only is cross-checking a penalty, but he pulled back and went thru his head. He should definitely be suspended and fined heavily for that unnecessary play. Less than a min left and he did that.

Then again, Jamie Benn was given a 2 min penalty for cross-checking Larkin in the neck. Larkin was out for the rest of the year and had to wear a neck brace/collar for 8 weeks due to the blow to the spine. Again, he was not suspended or fined at all for this hit on Larkin.

Benn didn’t learn from the Larkin incident. He did the same thing again to Stone last year during the playoffs. He received a 5 min major/ejected. Then, he was fined and suspended for 2 playoff games. Nothing but a 2 min penalty for his first offense and 2 games for his second.

Punishment is supposed to be equal across the board. So, if this is his first offense he should not be fined or suspended; right? Unless of course the name/team has something to do with punishment!

  3. Just I thought but if you did this in any company you would be fired immediately and most likely have charges pending. Why would this be excepted practice in sports ?????? Wtf ???

  4. Phenomenal job by the linesmen getting a hold of Rielly so quickly, and keeping the scrum away from the downed player. Really great teamwork 👏
