How the Edmonton Oilers Flopped at the 2016 NHL Draft (What Could Have Been)

The Edmonton Oilers were the laughing stock of the NHL for an entire decade from 2005-06 to 2015-16. They had so much help through the drafts, but could never build a good team. In this video we go over how the oilers could have very quickly turned things around if they had drafted properly during the 2016 NHL draft. Players like Matthew Tkachuk, Alex Debrincat and Adam Fox would have all looked great in Oilers uniforms, but Puljujarvi, Benson, and Niemelainen will just have to do.

  1. Great video, it’s funny how bad the oilers drafting has been. It is a little unfair to expect them to know how these guys would turn out in the future, but honestly through the years, it’s crazy how few late round picks haven’t even turned out to be 4th line caliber.

  2. Draisaitl should be added among the Oilers first overall picks & get rid of that arrogant bust (Yakupov) from the list!

  3. I was hoping oilers would pick Tkachuk. No one has a crystal ball, but we needed some skill and grit and he was the player I would have picked, hands down.

  4. Wow, just when you thought Oilers' fans couldn't bigger whiney bitches. They get four first overall picks, as well as several top ten picks, and then complain that the Flames got Tkachuk instead while the Flames have never had a pick in the top three. Morons.

  5. With hindsight you can pretty much always build a Cup winner out of one draft. The Debrincat thing is interesting though, as the Oilers taking him 32nd would make a lot of sense. I think for an organization that failed so much though, a random player is less of a risk to a GM's job than someone drafted for a connection.
