Out of all the possible remaining teams, Caps are the best situation for the Rangers.
As far as 1st Round opponents go, I think that playing the Capitals is most favorable. They are not a high scoring team any longer, they depend on their defense and goaltending, and their power play is not feared as in the past. They also have injuries on the back end as well. Certainly a more favorable matchup than having to face the Penguins, Red Wings, or even the Flyers. The fact that the Hurricanes will be facing the Islanders, Tampa playing Florida, and the Bruins taking on the Maple Leafs, this is the best the Rangers could have hoped for to start the playoffs.

The only thing that worries me is Charlie Lindgren. He's the X-factor for the Caps. If he's mediocre or just above average, we SHOULD steam roll them.
With the Caps vs. Rangers It's going to be a bump and; grind physical game.. Rangers success depends on keeping Ovi to the outside so he can't set up his slapshot..The Rangers won't be pushed around though… Rempe play smart and: keep outta the penalty box/sin-bin…. Don't let the caps run our goaltender…. L.G.R.!!!!!
We all know Rangers almost never win in less than 6.
That said, skill, special teams, goaltending and Lavi are the difference!

Rempe has to be part of the starting lineup considering we've got to go against Tom Wilson. It's also very interesting that this is our coaches former team so I bet there's a little bit of an edge to what Laviolette wants to do
