Kraken Exit Day Quotes and News



The Kraken players and Coach Hakstol are doing their final interviews today. I’ll update this post with various quotes and if any interesting news comes out.

According to RJ from ECH, Ron Francis will do interviews on Monday. If the rumored move off Root Sports happens, it might get announced on Monday and Francis might address it during his conference. If not we will have to hurry up and wait.

P.S. I’m not looking at every media member’s account, so if I miss a good quote please tag me in a comment and I’ll add it in.

2:30pm update – looks like we’re done for the day as the Islanders-Canes game has started.

# Justin Schultz

> Justin Schultz is up first addressing media. Says he hasn’t really thought much about his own future at this point. “Obviously, I love it here, and there’s still a lot to be played out. We’ll see what happens over the summer.”

>Justin Schultz just chatted with us. Cites inconsistency as the biggest problem this year.

# Jordan Eberle

> Jordan Eberle pointed to goal scoring as the biggest opportunity for improvement next season. He said he thought the team took steps in terms of goaltending and defense, but confidence and cohesion were lacking.

> Eberle says Kraken we’re solid in net and defensively, obviously 5v5 scoring was an issue. Wants to see the team return to the will and drive they had last season.

# Jaden Schwartz

> Jaden Schwartz said his offseasons are different now than earlier in his career. Says he’ll focus on taking care of his body. “This offseason is going to be a little bit longer than I’d like… At this point you’re not changing much. You’re just adding little things here and there that can help.”

> Jaden Schwartz said the slow start to the season as well as letting the down periods last a little too long were factors in the season going the way it did.

> Jaden Schwartz didn’t have a concrete reason when asked why the team’s scoring dipped this season. “We just couldn’t couldn’t get a grasp on it. Couldn’t get that confidence. Couldn’t get that momentum.”

# Jared McCann

> Jared McCann: “We’re gonna have to restart and reset. Everybody’s going to have to come with a different mindset that we’re going to be the underdogs again.”

> Jared McCann says he’s going into the offseason feeling healthy and is going to “go to Worlds and try to help Canada win a gold medal.” Says he’ll work this offseason on getting better defensively, and he learned this season that “center is hard.”

# Yanni Gourde

> Yanni Gourde said, “Everybody was kind of struggling offensively, and we could feel it, we could sense it.” Said everyone has an individual responsibility to work on what they need to work on this offseason.

> Yanni Gourde: “We knew we had much more to give this year than what we showed on the ice.”

> Yanni Gourde says it’s on each player to put in the work to be ready for next season: “nothing comes easy as an NHL player. You have to earn everything and you have to start earning in the summer when people aren’t looking.”

> Gourde is a player who watches the playoffs. Says he watches what successful teams do and “takes some of that into the next year”

    It’s nice to see most of them acknowledging the offensive shortcomings and praising the D and G improvement.

    If we could have last years O with this years D and G we would be a deep run competitor easily.

    From Kate Schefte’s quote from Dunn, sounds like the players definitely noticed the subdued crowds at CPA this year. Sounds like he gets the reasons, but still.
