It’s a really weird form of cope so that if the leafs lose they can be like “I knew it”. Makes no sense to be a fan of a team you don’t even believe can win
PokePersona
You’d think a Leafs fan would understand how little a regular season matchup matters in the playoffs.
SuperCommunication94
Leafs in 6 woooooooooooo
Skip-Class__EatAss
I’m more concerned about the fans that are fine with how “good” the Leafs play, even IF they lose…

IAmTheBredman
Having no hope is just ignorant tbh. I haven’t been super high on this roster from the outset of the season, and I those concerns still persist now. It’s going to be a tough series, but not because it’s the bruins, that’s just the playoffs. There’s so many strong teams now that can make a serious run if a couple things break their way. But that’s also true for the leafs. Playoff upsets happen all the time. Series that are expected to be close go either way all the time. Unsuspecting teams go deep pretty frequently. Florida last year wasn’t expected to get out of the first round. Montreal got to the finals. Columbus swept Tampa. New Jersey beat the rangers last year. St Louis and LA both won the cup as an 8 seed in their conference.
These guys trying to have “realistic” takes need to understand how much luck goes into a successful playoff run. If you don’t like the makeup of the team, then that’s fine, but acknowledge the fact that there’s a world where Sammy and the team plays like they did on that 7 game win streak. Theres a world where matthews continues his domination of puck possession and scores 7 goals in the first round. The post trade deadline defense could come alive in the playoffs where the rules around the net are relaxed.
foxcatcher3369
Watch this fuckers username be all over the GDT when the leafs start smashing the bruins and being the physical aggressors.
Dumb_rhino
Straight up cuck behaviour. Antithesis of being a sports fan, what’s the point of this
Giga1396
If you’re not hyped up for Game 1 of the playoffs, you’re not a real fan, period
chesspaw
Yeah those fans are annoying
partmoosepartgoose
Nah, he’s just using reverse psychology on the universe. If we have no faith and don’t board the hype train, the leafs will win. If we go hard in believing, the universe will go “haha, no” and completely fuck the team.
This team sucks! Bruins in 4!(haha, take that universe)
jrojason
When will people learn that hockey is so random that the team that’s worse, hell even the team that plays worse through the whole series, still wins quite often. The sample size in a 7-game series is honestly way too small to say the better team will win.
We’ve been the better team in the majority of series the last few years and it hasn’t meant shit. We were undeniably worse than Tampa and that was the series we won.
If you think the Leafs have no chance in this series which is already pretty even on paper in a lot of ways, you’re nuts.
Captain_Lavender6
I believe in the final victory
rnarcopolo
I mean I get our history and naturally not expecting much but I would never write something like this either. The reason we keep watching, or at least I do, is that I have hope that eventually our time will come. Why the fuck are we even here is we expect to lose before the series has even begun.
Fortuitous_Event
If the Leafs had shown any material ability to win in the playoffs I’d agree, but they haven’t, so here we are. Acting as if these fans don’t have a valid reason for feeling this way is the embarrassing part imo.
glueleg
I remember the last game we played the Bruins, we physically, straight up kicked their ass. I remember Marchand diving and crying like a bitch and Domi beating his ass upside down.
We ended up losing that game purely on the fact the puck just bounced the wrong way a few times. I think we we hit a couple cross bars and missed some open nets. It was so close and I remember walking away from it thinking damn, Leaf’s can really bump with the cheatin ass BS dogshit Bruins no problem. FUCK them.
wes8398
IMO, complaining about how someone chooses to be a fan of a team / vent their frustrations / communicate their fears / etc is just as “fucking embarrassing lmao” as the negative/unsupportive fan themselves. People will fan however they want to fan. I’d personally prefer to see the realism in posts like this, than the head-in-the-clouds, start-planning-the-parade crap. Anyway, GLG!! Let’s hope they turn it back up now that the quest for 70 and that awful last ~week of the regular season is over with.
reevoknows
Hot take: you can be this negative and still be a fan. Just because you think the team has no chance doesn’t mean you don’t want to be wrong and are cheering for takes instead of the team. I don’t believe I’m more of a fan than this person because I’m more positive going into this series. They could end up being completely on the money with this assessment. It’s not like this group has given us much reason to be overly optimistic.
With that all being said, Leafs in 6.
Drew_You_To_91
Like honestly I understand people having doubt. There’s plenty of past experiences that will insert doubt into fans’ minds i get it but at that point do you even cheer when the team scores still? Like ur desire to be right is insane at that point. Like how do u get happy for ur team’s success if ur constantly choosing them to blow it at every chance.
drizzt09
People cope with stressful situations in different ways. The evidence is there to prove the Leafs can’t beat the Bruins.
Sometimes when you love something so much that continuously lets you down (yet you still love it) sometimes it’s easier to expect disappointment so it doesn’t hurt as much and be pleasantly surprised when they don’t.
I myself go back n forth. I have been a fan since Wendel/Gilmore days with a lot of ups and downs along the way. I understand some people’s pain, I understand some people’s skepticism, I understand some people’s heart break.
As long as in the back end you still hold onto hope and love I just let them process in their way as long as they aren’t assholes or in your face.
Odd_Distribution3267
He has a point though
TendieSandwich
But he’s right…
BusyBoonja
Defense mechanism – expectation management. They have hope. They want them us to win. They don’t want to be hurt again so they over compensate with slander and low expectations
Extension_Year9052
This reminds me of the discussion in football where it’s discussed how hard it is to beat a team 3 times in one season. The younger leafs fans should cut older leafs fans slack though, they’ve suffered that much more, they’re allowed to be jaded lol
BottleOfMerlot
The trauma is real man
godston34
well, he’s wrong about nylander.
ptgrvmrdrdjhnsn
You’d hope for more optimism, but I cant point to a single thing where they’re actually wrong lol
zainery
Its the same kinda thing as your ps2 loading slowly so acting like you dont care
mjmjve
I have a new process for post season Leafs. I DVR the game and check the score at the end. If they won I’ll watch. No anxiety. If they lost. I didn’t see it. No anxiety.
JeffBoyarDeesNuts
They say they’re a Leafs fan… but I don’t think they’re a Leafs fan.
n3rdsm4sh3r
If you’re that certain of the L – drop a grand on the series
Candid_Rich_886
They have a much more talented Defense and we have much more talented forwards.
Ok-Cut473
This is the playoffs, anything can happen, Caps could go on a run and win it! some sick part of me deep down inside wants to see that happen
itaintbirds
I would argue the leafs have conditioned their fans over the last 57 years to expect failure. I will be amazed if they can eliminate the bruins.
Ethdev256
Regular season is done. I’m sure Florida was crying last year over their many losses vs their opponents in the regular season before caving them in.
Toronto decides its destiny. Playoff hockey is different
Strange_Cap1049
I think most leafs fans are in a love hate relationship. I love the team and watching them play and I hope they do well but on the whole they’ve give us very little to be optimistic about throughout the years in the playoffs. We finally made it out of round 1 and lost most of that team in the next season.
I’m oddly positive about this playoff season but I’m also not surprised if we end up doing worse than the caps
Guerrilaz12
I’ve stopped joining live game chats because when leafs are losing or underperforming 99.9% of the comments are like this one.
Based on this guys logic panthers had zero chance against the leafs last year since the leafs beat them 3-1 in the regular season 🤷🏻♂️
danlawl
I love this god damn team. But if i had to put money on them winning this series, I’d very much be hesitant.
I want them to prove us all wrong and earn this series win. Our top guys need to play their best hockey right now.
labadee
Name and shame

Seems like a reasonable fan, they’ve lost every single game against the bruins. They run a negative record against them in the last few years. His simply a realist. Matthews will get double or triple coverage again like every other year and for some reason the fan base will bitch that he never scores. Then you have Marner and Nylander zero board presence, can only play the pass game and zero physicality, can never retrieve the puck.
It’s good to think the leafs will go far but common, physical play is the leafs weakness. You play any team with a little grit and they crumble, it’s the same song every year. But this year, they have a pretty gritty team so theres that hope right?Right? AM I RIGHT?
Thirdnipple79
While there are concerns based on past mistakes I think the real question is will the refs be one sided and act like the bruins are the cleanest team in the league? I predict keefe gets ejected at least once this series.
BackTo1975
Well, it’s also kinda realistic. I’m hopeful. But the Leafs looked rough against Boston all year and the focus on getting Matthews 70 goals hasn’t helped the team prep for the playoffs the past couple of weeks.
Then there’s the goaltending. Woll shouldn’t even be dressing right now. Samsonov has slipped and I don’t have much confidence there.
The Leafs are big underdogs going into this series. Maybe that’ll help them. Dunno. But I don’t find the negativity embarrassing. These guys have never gotten the job done in the playoffs so I sure don’t blame people for feeing down.
clapperssailing
This is a quiet way of saying a green coach could never develop them.
91Caleb
Might be a lot here too young to remember leafs going 0-5 against the sens in the regular season then sweeping them in the playoffs
billyshin
Matthews is able to score without secondary help. Nylander/Mo always shows up in the playoffs so I’m optimistic. As for Marner, physical teams will target him now matter what. I just hope he does something about it instead of laughing it off when he gets punched 3 times in the face by Tkachuk. (Or Marchand)

Being jaded isn’t a bug, it’s a feature.
I’m not a leafs fan just bouncing around different teams subs for playoffs since my jackets are ass lol.
All I’m saying jackets were out scored by Tampa 17-3 in the 2018-2019 regular season.
That’s why they play the games.
I understand tempering your expectations but Jesus. How about enjoy the fucking greatest playoff sports on earth and hope your team wins?
