The NHL is coming to Utah

The National Hockey League’s Board of Governors has approved the establishment of an NHL franchise in Utah that will be owned and controlled by Smith Entertainment Group, led by Ryan and Ashley Smith, beginning in the 2024-25 NHL season.

Effective at closing, the approved transactions will result in the Arizona Coyotes franchise transferring the totality of its existing hockey assets – including its full Reserve List, roster of Players and draft picks and its Hockey Operations Department – to the Utah franchise.

  1. Opening shot does not speak hockey at all. They should’ve shown fans from the 03 Olympics. Gosh give me that job please.

  2. Great move NHL, going from a 6.5 million person market to a 1.4 million person market, and it's going to be way better? Bettman had it in for the Coyotes for years. Meruelo doesn't and didn't know what he's doing owning a team

  3. It would be an excellent side trip for me if the Toledo walleye play the Utah grizzlies and if we’re out there a whole week perfect day to see the new Utah team

  4. Mountain tall, Utah. They're going to be really good very fast. They'll be ready to take on the Golden Knights

  5. I hope this SLC team becomes the Jazz of the NHL a do noething team for a do noething city that desperately wants to be anything other than what it was, is anw will aleays be known as, a cultural wasteland. SCREW MURUELO, the NHL and SLC SUCKS!.
DONE with the NHL as tbey race the NBA and MLB in a race rowards irrelevance.

  6. Nobody is pleased with you right now, NHL. You screwed over Arizona and expect us to ignore that whole mess and be excited? Every other team sympathizes with the Coyotes right now, and you shmucks can’t even wait, nor can you appropriately acknowledge the situation as a whole.

  7. If the new team in Utah represents a new franchise, what will happen to the draft picks of the defunct Coyotes?

  8. I've waited to see this since the 2002 olympics. Now the Knights and Avs will have a natural rivalry, cheers to Utah. ✊🏼
