He still has a house in Buffalo so that’ll make things easier for him, ha ha

Not surprised. He was going to get another job, his record is what it is, despite the no cups. Paul Maurice doesn’t have one either and he’d get hired in a minute if he was available.

    What a run wow

His head in a jar will be coaching the Techbuffalo Matrixsabres eventually

    Three things

One: apparently Lindy’s extension with the Devils was MUCH longer than a year + an extension

Two: WE DON’T HAVE TO PAY THAT ANYMORE

Three: If Lindy wants to poach our entire remaining coaching staff then he can go right ahead

  5. I dont really get how you can be in a long time playoff drought and hire Ruff after this season. His defense system takes like 15 months for the dmen to learn. He won’t last 15 months.

Hah – Buffalo is our first two games of the season. Back to back in Prague. Makes that matchup a tad more interesting now.

  7. Soooo my million dollar question do we get draft comp for his hire?

  8. dog_fantastic

Hopefully our fanbase holds off any laughing until we confirm who is the next HC here.

I actually don’t hate that hire for them *ducks*

Jesus Christ. Lindy was too busy coaching the future to be worried about the present. Hopefully he gets a cup in 2103

You know what, good for Ruff. For all his flaws he did help this Devils team develop but he ran out of runway in New Jersey with this group needing to be able to contend for championships now. Glad he can go home and try to help the Sabres get over the hump for one more stint though.

  12. MaxxHeadroomm

Geez. I never realized how healthy Lindy Ruff is. Good for him getting a 79 year contract

  13. Devils vs Sabres to start the year in Prague too…. 1-0 not them?

  14. ScottyKNJ

The one thing Lindy can do is develop young talent ( just dont get on his bad side lol ) that alone is worth it to the sabres

Not going to say a word about this. Devils don’t have a coach yet and if it’s Green, then we lost and were better off with Ruff! Also don’t need any kind of bad Karma going into the 1st 2 games which also happen to be back to backs vs the former coach. This can go so many different ways.

  16. I hope he does well back there. Ruff had his problems this year but he got more shit from devils fans than he deserved.

  17. LimitAsXApproaches0

Wow, guess we have 79 more years of Lindy Ruff coaching the Sabres!

Ruff is not close to as bad as some posters here would have you believe. Several here promised that Ruff was the root of the problem and that things would improve once he was fired (addition by subtraction). Well…they played demonstrably worse under Green than under Ruff, even though Green had the benefit of very good goaltending. Was it right to dismiss Ruff? Yes. He was not getting it done and his system cannot work with so little experience among Dmen and/or a third and fourth line that is mediocre or worse (which is what the third and fourth lines were after the McLeod arrest). So it was not longer a good fit. But at the same time, in the right situation and with the right mix of players, Ruff can do quite well.

If the Sabres go farther than us in the next few years, then we can confirm that Lou and Marty sold their souls to the actual devil and that the Rock is built on an ancient burial ground.

the man will coach from his grave, admirable.

  21. Mr7three2

Lmao. Enjoy. He has been relevant in over a decade

  22. Good luck lindy. Yes it was time to go here but he hasn’t coached that many wins because he can’t coach. And when holts gets traded to Buffalo , watch him score 30. All kidding aside, I hope lindy succeeds there.

  23. DempsDatBoi

What are the hottest rumors about our own search??

  24. Ruff will do well there. His system will work well with their d core. I think firing ruff was the right thing to do as long as we don’t hire green.

  25. Anonycron

This is a good move for them, and for him. That’s the type of team Ruff excels with. And their trajectory is upward. Assuming the planets don’t align against him and that team in the awful ways they aligned against us this year… Lindy should bounce back just fine.

  26. specifichero101

Happy for Ruff. He is a good coach, and is respected by players. Didn’t work out here, but that doesn’t mean he’s bad. It doesn’t work out for every coach in the end, that’s just the nature of the position. Hope Buffalo doesn’t take the next step before the devils though..

  27. Training-Material155

Good for him. He obviously loves coaching and hopefully at that age we’re all doing what we love and are making lots of money doing it. it was time to go but we’ll always have the Rangers series.

Should we get Jacques Lemaire again?
