I remember the cheers he got at RJ’s memorial. Then in a kind of “passing of the torch” way, Lindy encouraged the crowd to applaud Granato too.
Mothafucka took the torch back, and it’s gonna be a fun ride

I was neutral/meh but taking a step back, I think there’s a better chance than not Lindy helps propel this team to the next level. He did it with the Devils and this season, despite losing $20M worth of defensemen in Graves, Severson and Hamilton, losing their 3C mid season, and having no goaltending, they were 7th in the league in 5v5 GF/60 and 5th in 5v5 xGF.
(Relatedly, I’m relieved we avoided Gallant and Berube. The former burned out in each of his 3 HC spots and was followed by coaches improving each team. The latter same thing, with a rep for clashing with young talent (like Kyrou), and the AHL coach then took them from a 76 pt pace to a 101 pt pace. Does not instill confidence).
I will just say, that even though I am not a fan of this move. I absolutely adore Lindy Ruff and if anyone can rebuild the culture and get the team playing hard each night, its him. Also I guarantee you will not here a word from any players about our fans this year

As a devils fan, I’m happy to see Lindy back in Buffalo. He was synonymous with the Sabres for my entire childhood of watching hockey. Happy for what he did for the devils and their young squad, and it makes sense that he went back to Buffalo who also has a young group.

The players aren’t lacking in skill, they’re lacking in leadership. I think Lindy checks that box, and has a ton of experience. Plus I’m ready to OD on memberberries.

I cannot explain how excited I am for this. Not because he was the HC for 16 years and my dawn of being a Sabres fan (fan since 1996), but because he comes with a pedigree a mile long and a massive redemption to finish what he created. If today we hired Berube, or Brind’Amor, or whoever, I’d be happy. I’ve spent the last hour and a half pacing up and down my house unable to contain my excitement because it’s Ruff.
He wants to win a cup for Buffalo. From 1979 to when he was relived in 2013, he wanted nothing more to win a cup for Buffalo. Now he’s back *with a vengeance*. And as his NJ tenure showed, he can take over a young team and create success.

So who we think the next GM hires as the next HC in two years?

Lindy’s only 64. I thought he was at least 70. Seems like he’s been around forever

That’s a good thing to read especially if you’re from the “how about someone new” camp. (Like me)
he definitely knows what to say

Love this move, I don’t see any negatives with this, dudes had proved success with us getting us to the playoffs before. Was successful with NJ as well, there’s only so much a coach can do if the team is playing like garbage.

If Lindy finishes his story I will ugly cry and scream like a girl and not even think twice about it.

He wasn’t my first choice, but I fucking love it.
Maybe he was my first choice and I just didn’t realize it until now that it’s in my face.

I’d take a bullet for this man.
